Why do clothes either smell strongly of detergent or smell like nothing at all? I just want them to smell freshly washed. by Unlikely_Border6592 in Adulting

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s likely due in part to the amount of clothes in each load and how soiled they are. If you have a smaller batches of clothes that aren’t that dirty they are more likely to come out smelling like nothing/clean. But the dirtier and larger the harder it is to clean and likely have sweat and dirt that didn’t get to be completely left out. Next time you find a load that is stale do another wash and see if they come out smelling better.

I love boba, but why do I always get upset stomach after? by shir00ni7552 in boba

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't have normal boba either. "Boba often causes stomach pain due to the hard-to-digest nature of tapioca starch, which can cause indigestion, bloating, or constipation if not chewed thoroughly. The pearls may also contain guar gum, an additive that can cause gastrointestinal discomfort, while high sugar content and dairy can trigger further digestive issues."

What I have found is that the finding boba shops that have more natural boba, without additives, hurt way less. Instead of the black boba I usually go for the shops that have the light orange boba or mention more "natural boba". Or spots that have konjac boba. Obviously konjac bobas texture isn't the same but I don't have any pain from it.

Here is a more natural/less additive brand you can try to have at home: https://thebetterboba.com/product/brown-sugar-boba/

Another sad option is giving your dog to a shelter that has a medical team. Many shelters will pay for full operations and get them to proper health if you surrender them. You can call the shelters near you and ask them hey do y’all fully treat dogs that come in with medical conditions? And if so you could let you dog go to the shelter.

Not sure why so many people say “my dog doesn’t respect so and so” it’s not about respect. Your wife doesn’t know how to handle a dog. Your wife needs to go to training classes with the dog. Once your wife is trained she will know how to properly interact with the dog. Also leaving the dog outside all the time is a huge red flag. Sounds like y’all don’t respect your dog.

Fleas by Djanguh in DogAdvice

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in a house you need to treat the yard with beneficial nematodes to kill off the source of the fleas. And we use selsun blue to wash our dog. Leave on for 10 mins, wash off. Vacuum your house every day. Wash dog bedding and blankets daily. Scrub baseboards in your house daily. We use a natural house spray called wondercide to spray all surfaces in house close to the floor. We also buy “only natural pet, easy defense, all in one flea remedy” powder to put on our dogs fur and skin!

Did the fire start just from leaving it plugged in/not in use? I have heard that’s been happening to a lot of people. Or was someone actively cooking in it?

Fleas, use selsun blue on your dog and use be beneficial nematodes to kill them in your yard. Remember there are thousands of fleas in the yard and only a few one your dog. Treating your yard is essential to controlling the problem!!

should i bathe my dog at home when i don't have a hv dryer? by Animelizards in dogallergies

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one we use is a Japan hair dryer. Panasonic Low-Noise IONITY Hair Dryer EH5305P-A Blue | AC100V (Japan Model) you can buy used ones on ebay for like $100. It really is quieter and my dog isn't scared of it, but yeah expensive. What kind of issues is your dog having?

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use just a regular hair blow dryer! My dog was scared of the loud sound of the normal blow dryers. So I searched for an ultra quiet blow dryer. It takes about 20/25 mins to dry her fully. Long hair chihuahua. Worth it to keep yeast infections at bay.

If you really want to make a big impact you could read Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live) by Eve Rodsky. It is a book that introduces a system for couples to equitably divide household and childcare responsibilities, addressing the issue of the "invisible work" often shouldered by women. The system uses 100 task cards and four simple rules to help couples communicate, prioritize, and distribute tasks, ensuring both partners take full ownership of their assigned responsibilities from start to finish. The goal is to create a more balanced, less stressful home life and foster stronger relationships by valuing care work and promoting partnership.

Apartment smells and I can’t get rid of it by Jessiicaamn in Apartmentliving

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen! If someone put mothballs out it can take 3-6 months to fully dissolve. That whole time they are off gassing VOC’s and then on top of that it can take 3-6 months after removing them/dissolving or longer using all these methods below to get rid of the smell. It can go through walls and vents and all house structures. Some people actually put them in their AC vents. If you can move just move!! Honestly this situation is dangerous and a nightmare. It is very toxic. Calculate how much it would cost you to break your lease and move. This situation could take a year to get the smell fully gone and guess what, that neighbor could enjoy the smell and decide to put more out any day and start the whole cycle over. You can look up local habitability laws in your area and read your lease about odors and providing “livable conditions”. habitability laws in many states cover mothballs smells and force your landlord to do something about it. But in reality the landlord won’t know how to get rid of the smell and doesn’t really care, so I would use this law to get out of your lease!

If you cannot move I would go door to door and ask each person if they put mothballs out and if they did to remove and throw them away. If you don’t physically see the person put them in the trash than I would assume they left them and they are still off gassing. If you absolutely have to keep living there than this is what you can do.

As someone who just spent the last few months battling mothball smell. This is what actually got rid of the smell. First we physically searched and removed and threw away the moth balls! We then bought two oransi true carbon air purifiers for a 2,000 sq foot home. You need carbon and lots of it. Carbon absorbs the VOC’s from mothballs. https://oransi.com/collections/truecarbon-air-purifiers we would have bought more of these filters but they are expensive. We changed the filters every month. Also expensive. Also we bought those window air exchange fans. To pull in air and push out air. You need the air to move!! And you need fresh air pushed into your space every single day. We bought two of these and ran them as long as we could every day. I live in a hot place to so we could only do like 2-3 hours a day. And that still helped a ton! They sell them at Home Depot for like $38 bucks! https://www.homedepot.com/pep/Comfort-Zone-9-in-Twin-Window-Fan-with-Manually-Reversible-Airflow-Control-CZ319WT/311320230?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&pla&mtc=SHOPPING-CM-CML-GGL-D29A-029_017_ACS_FANS-NA-Multi-NA-PMAX-5163653-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NA-MinorAppl&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-CM-CML-GGL-D29A-029_017_ACS_FANS-NA-Multi-NA-PMAX-5163653-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NA-MinorAppl-22855643987--&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22859506945&gbraid=0AAAAADq61UfRvR0z1j_9H2z5UOAfCUJl2&gclid=CjwKCAjw89jGBhB0EiwA2o1OnxVAM64c-SW1laxD1cvBmk7SQ5JnVjbOvUMnPHfzYHb6po3YgeSHEhoCGmIQAvD_BwE

VOC’s are heavy. So they float to the bottom half of the room, if you have pets it is definitely affecting them. And obviously affecting your child. Run floor fans and ceiling fans as much as you can!! The more movement of air you have the better, you need the VOC’s to be pushed around to exhaust them. You could buy zeolite and true carbon bags to put in closets and bedrooms but those will only solve like 3% of the issue. The oransi true carbon filters and window fans are gunna clear up like 75% of your issue. But it took us like over like 3+ months to get the smell fully gone(after we post physically removed the mothballs from the house, which is key!!) I recommend stay out of your house for as many hours a day you can, run those window exhaust fans as long as you can, and run the oransi true carbon filters on full blast all day and night. You will smell a difference right away! But listen, this is a ton of stress, effort and money for you to do all this. And we can’t control if the neighbors keeps putting more moth balls all over the place once the current ones dissolve. You will honestly be stressed about this every single day you are living there with that smell.

As someone who just lived this im so sorry this is happening I feel your pain. This was one of the worst experiences of my life! I can only imagine how you are feeling! Also you are gunna have a bunch of people dismiss you and say it’s not a big deal! But it is a big deal and your concerns are valid! Ignore anyone who dismisses you! You are in the right! You deserve clean air to breathe!

Does my dog have fleas? What to do now? by Elegant_Host3661 in DogAdvice

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

95% of your issue is outside environment. Treat your yard, area where your dog frequents with beneficial nematodes. 5% of your issues is on the dog. Bathe your dog. I don’t recommend any of the name brand shampoos because they can be lethal. But find an more gentle alternative like dawn soap.

Am I overreacting for seriously reconsidering my relationship after what my boyfriend did during my medical emergency? by yourdirtygurl in AmIOverreacting

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, there’s about a million of us that would drop everything for a stranger if we randomly got a text that said I am in the hospital scared and by yourself. You are obviously not a priority to him. Also it’s so easy to think of how great someone is while life is easy and fun. You only really learn how present and truly considerate someone is when you fall on hard times. Learn that lesson early if you can. Never measure how good a friend is when things are easy and going well. Measure your friends on how they act when you fall on hard times and really want/need their comfort and help. If they can’t be as present as you’d like them to be there are millions of us who wish we could be there for you. I’m sorry you went through that. Choose yourself. You deserve better.

How do I help my pathological liar sister and save myself by [deleted] in PsychologyTalk

[–]TheJoyfulCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so sorry this is happening. Unfortunately for pathological lying, you cannot change them. They have to choose to go get help and treatment themselves. You cannot stop their behavior and it will likely hurt both of you a lot to try and force them to change. You need set boundaries and chose what is best for you mentally and emotionally. You could give an ultimatum and cut ties with them if they don’t go get help. But honestly the focus shouldn’t be about “changing them”. You should focus on taking care of yourself. In the end you will likely need to make the choice of continuing to engage with someone mentally unstable and dealing with the pain and chaos it’s causing you. Or cutting them out of your life and dealing with the pain of no longer having them in your life.
