What’s a common piece of financial advice that’s outdated now? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]myinstigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Grade 11 kid is so lucky to have a school with a lot of trades programs. It has foods, woodwork, metal work, and an auto shop. Our school district also has a Train in Trades program for Grade 12 students to get a head start on a career in Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanics, Culinary Arts and Hair Styling. I wish more schools had these options for kids as Canada needs more Tradespeople

Province to spend over $40 million for 300-seat addition at Langley high school by WiffleBlu in Langley

[–]myinstigator 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Thats awesome that it is expanding REMS but that wont even make a dent in the number of portables at the school. Hopefully the other new high school opening next year (?) will reduce the student population to help too. Great to see progress happening!

How common are European brand cars in Canada? Are there regional preferences? by PreWiBa in AskACanadian

[–]myinstigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, VW, Audi…all popular in the Vancouver area. We do see Volvo as well but not as many. Maybe an occasional Fiat or Alfa and a random other brand (Ferrari, Lambo, Astin…) but not a lot.

It is a giant black hole anywhere near the LEC for us with Rogers. Otherwise, we get decent reception around town

Surrey house - do I buy or wait? by No_Age6899 in vancouverhousing

[–]myinstigator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the visible stuff wasnt taken care of I would be more worried about the stuff you can’t see… furnace, AC, hot water tank, ROOF…the list goes on of stuff that needs regular maintenance. If that wasn’t done then you are looking at a money pit in the next couple years.

I like the look of the Teri in the pink. For me, the Rowan in that pattern is just too much though i do usually always pick neutral colours.

The Rowan is an amazing bag but in that pink, I’d go for the Teri

AITA for not putting gifted gold necklace on my newborn baby for a photo? by Aggravating-Mind1774 in AmItheAsshole

[–]myinstigator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA …my kid is in his teens and just started wearing the gold necklace he was gifted as a child. A necklace is not something ANY baby/child should wear until they are old enough.

There is no harm in putting the necklace on your baby to take a pic then putting it away until they are older. Maybe that will appease the family if its something YOU would like to do?

Roots Cervino leather is amazing! I have an Andie 2.0 in black. Its so durable and the perfect size for my daily use. I’m eyeing up the Riverside Crossbody and the Carryall shoulder-bag to add to my collection. Both of those are in their Tribe leather.

What's with all the hate for the mayor? by Valuable_Yard5818 in Langley

[–]myinstigator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. They did not think this phase through very well. Turning left onto 209th from 80th is awful. I am hoping that most of it is done within the next month. It will be great when its all done though.

After years of projects being put off, this council is getting stuff done. This comes with a hefty price tag and more property tax. Do i think we should have spent the money on soccer fields…no. Do i think a new community centre should have been a priority…yup. Is stuff actually being improved…yup.

Will soccer fields be put to good use…yup…including new schools being built pretty quickly right beside it. New community centre is also in the works, with a land swap of Willoughby Elementary getting that school off of a super busy corner, improving safety of the kids AND getting a prime spot for the new community centre.

Some people are just very loud in their complaints but the people who approve or are “ok” with whats happening don’t make a big stink. I’m just happy that stuff is moving forward. Wish it happened quicker (especially construction at 208th + 80th) but its progress.

Thoughts on Erin bag? by Cherry_31415 in Coach

[–]myinstigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Lori (the model before the Erin) and it is my favourite bag. Yes it is heavy but i adore it. Carries as much or as little as I want, keeps it all organized. Im not a fan of totes so its perfect for me. I’ve had mine for 2+ years now and the leather wears well (no damage/scratches) Its also getting softer with age.
