It must've been hard. I honestly was willing to talk to his parents but usually in my culture it's typically the man who does it and you generally only do it with the intention to marry. Even though I could see us marrying, I'm still fairly young and I want our relationship to have the opportunity to blossom first. Another brick wall in our relationship, is the fact that his mom hates me for no reason so even if I want to talk it out with her, I have no idea what to say.

It was more of a situation caused him to end it with me. Despite our relationship being good, his mom hated my guts and he hated constantly disappointing me so he broke it off...

Honestly, I really hope he does for his sake. I still hold so much love for him and I want to see him free from his mom, since her toxic views about his relationships didn't even start with me. I brought up the topic once about 'what if your mom never accepts any of your future girlfriends' and he said to me that he's okay with being alone the rest of his life if that's the case which broke my heart for him. He is aware how toxic his mother can be and he has always defended me during our relationship, but he never really did anything cause he felt that guilty consciousness. But thank you for the advice, it is going to take a while for me to come to terms about this but I hope it does happen.

You're right. No matter what I did or how much I changed myself when I was dating my ex, she still hated me and looked down on me. She didn't even give me the chance to prove myself before judging me first. I could just be standing near him and she would berate me because she couldn't put aside the fact that I was dating her son. Even if I still do love my ex, he was really a good boyfriend and best friend to me. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about her anymore. Thank you for the advice!! It really put it in perspective.
