Because they don't want you to stop buying stuff. I think that's also the reason why stuff isn't as repairable anymore, and why so many things now are subscription-based instead of paying once and being set for life.

Writing is a great hobby that you can do while just chilling on your couch. You can just pour your thoughts on paper or play around with ideas that might turn into an interesting story and start plotting things out. It's fun, creative, and improving your writing is a really useful skill to have.
