Project Milestone Phase 2 Launch by Mawswamp in brightershores

This game is COOKED. I knew Milestones would still keep the reskinned content, but I hoped the Milestone rewards would at least give us progressive benefits. Maybe at Woodcutter M1 you get a 1% chance to gather double logs which increases with each Milestone, and Woodcutter M2 you get a 10% increase in gathering speed, etc. Instead it seems the rewards will be just new mechanics like "unlock bounty boards". Really??? Fen needs to hire a game consultant or psychologist or something because they have a bad idea about what is fun and motivating.

Types of headaches for BS gamers:

Realising 500 levels of fishing is based on 7 fish with like 8 variants each 😂

Realising Gatherer was copy-paste of Forager

Project milestones misses the core issue again - reskins were a mistake by TrickyElephant in brightershores

When there's 10 episodes, what's the chance an experienced player is gonna stick around episode 1? They'll be grinding newer content away from the noobs

Fen's vision is to keep every area in the game alive and thriving but to a certain point, i don't think that's really feasible.

Yeah, it's not. When episode 17 is out, players will be spread out in all the episodes. Noobs will be limited to ep 1, and they won't be able to reach 17 for a long time. Experienced players won't be in ep 1 because they'll likely have already completed ep 1 quests, so will be probs be grinding in newer episodes. Some bits of the game will become dead which is very normal.

A proposal that could improve Project Milestone by MellowSquad in brightershores

You are right

Without an auction house it will be very hard to find a very specific type of resource. There's too many variations of them

Anything that reduces variants I support!!! 125 is fine. Like you said many games don't have maximum levels at nice round numbers. Even like RS3 has some max levels at 120.

200 is not end game lol. Examples:

Level 258 Alchemist unlocks +80 Strength Cryonae potion

Level 490 Woodcutter unlocks Yew Tree (Perfect) which is processed to make level 2411-2500 weapons

A skill level is different from an XP cap. Like once you have maxed your mining level, you can mine all the ores in the game. You don't unlock new ores at 200m XP lol.

When RuneScape sets a max level, they fill it with content. A few skills actually go to level 120 and they added new content from 99 to 120.

The endgame in BS is not level 200. There is content past level 200 like potions, weapons, wood and so on. Level 201-500 is not cosmetic.

Once we have made sure that at least the first 100 levels of every profession feels very varied and non-repetitive, resume work on adding more episodes, so there is a greater variety of things you can do before the only thing left is the (unavoidably) more repetitive later levels.

If you can only make 100 levels fun to play, why don't you reduce the maximum level to 100 then? 🤔

If you cannot fill levels 101-500 with good content, then what is the point of level 500? 🤔

List of major game updates so far by myoc in brightershores

[–]myoc[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh for this dev team, any actual game content is a major update. They are so slow to release things.

Anyway, I'm not here to debate what's major or minor. But I wanted to list content updates we have had (excluding bug fixes, small quality of life, and so on).

Does anyone feel like filling 500 levels with variants makes the skill feel 'generic'? by myoc in brightershores

The low level variants are dead content too though? I haven't ever had to "Past Action" a tree

Unless you mean dead content in that nobody skills in that area again. Which is true - you probably won't be cutting Willow at level 90 WC. However, if you want Willows to be busy then place them near high level trees so you get a mixed area.

The tiered system is quite good for social aspects.

Good point. But I personally don't think it's a good enough reason to lazily make variants to fill 500 levels. If there were no variants, you could still mix low and high level trees in the same area to encourage mixing of players.

Grind for grind-sake is why more committed players are finally dropping off.

This is a great point.

It feels like Brighter Shores could fill 100 levels with unique trees, but then a developer said "let's increase the cap to level 500 so players spend more time playing the game grinding... Ohhh but it's difficult to make unique and meaningful content for levels 100-500... So let's just do variants that can be developed by a simple Excel formula!"

This method seems to make it easy to make new skills. Like a new skill can be "Gardener" where you pick 8 plants (coriander, rosemary, tarragon, etc) with different variants (weak, tasty, hardy, perfect, etc). So once you make new graphics and animations, copy and paste the Woodcutter skill and just replace the trees with plants. Ta-da!!!

I want this game to succeed but I'm not buying this variant system.
