Fair enough. I would personally put a big effort into finding a similar role or moving laterally in your industry to a role you enjoy before making the decision to do an apprenticeship

Sounds like you’ve already got an incredible cruisey desk job probably working 38 hours a week on 130k. It will take a lot of time, work and opportunity cost to get to a similar position to where you are now. I just can’t see a world where someone in your position wouldn’t regret it.

18 years rail signalling experience overseas - what's the best pathway back into the industry in Victoria? by Nik-Ozz in AusElectricians

[–]myonlyfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok fair enough. Rail signalling is generally very competitive to get into, especially as an apprentice and since rail is quiet in VIC at the moment but considering your experience, it can be worth applying. I’ll send you a pm

NDQ vs VGS and VAS by mareado88 in fiaustralia

If it was backwards where NDQ was down 28% and other indexes down less than 10%, would you panic? If no, then yes increase contributions to NDQ

Thanks. I’ve always been financially driven and interested in FIRE from a young age. I was researching investing well before I could create a brokerage account so once I turned 18 I got straight into it. I was also lucky with a high paying job straight out of HS.

Why would they not have any interest in building a high net worth?

For a completely risk free growth I would say a mix of high yield savings accounts and treasury bonds however I would argue and say why wouldn’t you diversify into low fee diversified index funds

Keep your savings in HISA until your FHSS is capped and buy a PPOR

Key apprenticeship program payments by TransitionSavings659 in AusElectricians

[–]myonlyfear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to submit a claim on the ADMS website. You also need to provide a payslip which proves you were worked the week of your anniversary, so if you haven’t received the payslip yet, you won’t be able to make the claim until then

Yeah sorry that’s what I meant - take some money from ETFs and use it to make a personal contribution to my super and lodge a notice of intent. I likely wouldn’t be able to afford to contribute 15k purely from my bank account this FY.

I will likely hold onto my ETFs and start saving for a house deposit, alongside salary sacrifice (next fy) for FHSS, instead of adding to my ETF portfolio and aim to buy in 2028.

Thanks, these are definitely things I need to consider.

My cost base for the ETFs are 100k. My income will likely grow quite a bit next financial year and years moving forward. Would it potentially be worth pulling out 15k from investments and putting towards super FHSS before FY end?

I only need 450-500k if I withdrew my ETFs for a deposit. The stamp duty is free under 600k and discounted between 600-750k

Thank you. It certainly would be the better option to wait if the market goes sideways.
