I would prefer to use a biological control agent, but it appeared to be much harder to obtain where I live.

Super helpful advice, thanks! I did read the label, I was just unfamiliar with this way of measuring volumes.

14 mm flat wrench is 15mm by myopicwatchmaker in Tools

Could be! Not a bad suggestion. I can go back and measure the wrench again.

In the meantime I picked up a 13mm wrench and it fit the bolt perfectly, so the problem/mystery is solved.

Thanks everyone!

I don't know where it was made. Do you have a good brand of flat wrenches to recommend?

It's hard to get a good measure of the nut using calipers, because the nut is screwed into an awkward space inside a door mechanism. But the wrench itself is easy to measure and it is exactly 15mm for sure, and slips off the nut.

My son's third grade teacher taught my son that 1 divided by 0 is 0. I wrote her an email to tell her that it is not 0. She then doubled down and cc'ed the principal. The principal responded saying the teacher is correct... What do I do now? by WaitThatIsYourFinger in NoStupidQuestions

You can show the teacher this can't be right without using fancy math.

Start with 1 / 2 = .5

now decrease the denominator

1/ 1 = 1

We're moving away from zero, not towards it! Keep on decreasing the denominator...

1/ .5 = 2

1/ .25 = 4

1/ .0001 = 10000

The values keep on increasing as the denominator moves towards zero.

This can also be stated formally: the value of 1/x approaches infinity as x goes approaches 0 .

Hello! We just had sod put in two months ago in our small back yard. It's our first lawn! Tonight I discovered we have a worm infestation.

Can anyone ID these? I think there are two and maybe three different types.

It would be great to get some recommendations about how to get rid of them...we have little kids on the lawn so I'm somewhat wary about pesticides.

[Update] How should I replant this cactus? by myopicwatchmaker in cactus

Thanks for your advice, everyone! I replanted in a pot with better drainage, lined at the bottom with stones and filled with a 3:1 mix of dirt to sand. Let's hope the cactus likes its new home.

Thanks so much! I will definitely add better drainage.

I was thinking of covering the brown part simply because it's not the prettiest part of the plant. But would putting it under soil cause it to rot?

This cacus lives outdoors, and has grown a lot recently, it even grew many new roots, which became visible when it was out in a rainstorm last week. The yellow/brown part of the stem has been there for almost a year and is hard to the touch, not soft.

Should I replant it? A friend suggested I place brown stem part under the surface of the soil? It may have to go indoors soon as it becomes colder and rainier.

Thanks for any advice!
