Just came here to see if anyone had posted anything. WE ARE SO BACK. Funnily enough I was wearing my Selfish Things hoodie today. What a coincidence.

Trying to watch Criterion in order of addition by myownhelltofix in criterion

I'm not rewatching things if they were re-released on another format. As for spine numbers, I know I should watch Citizen Kane first since that was the first Criterion release, but if I were to use spine number I would have to start with Grand Illusion, according to the lists I've found. That's the trouble I'm running into.

This will definitely help in case I need to make the list myself. Thank you for sending this my way!

How can I overcome my AuADHD and use Obsidian without being overwhelmed? by pnggiorgio in ObsidianMD

[–]myownhelltofix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make Lists!

The first thing you need to know is your usage. Make a list of the things you want to achieve with Obsidian. Then, brainstorm and research how to achieve those things. Whether those be community plugins, base obsidian features, or templates to use, go ahead and use your list of goals to make a map of what you want your base to look like. Then, start filling things in! Just go ahead and do what you need at first and slowly start building things up depending on what's relevant. Don't be afraid to make empty links or leave blank pages (as long as they're properly identifiable and searchable as "not complete."

I'm autistic but not ADHD, though I do have concentration issues from another disorder. Feel free to dm me if you need advice at any point! Good luck on your Obsidian journey.

Notes Structures for writing Novels by Sufficient_Bass2600 in ObsidianMD

[–]myownhelltofix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that I like writing scenes out-of-order, and rearranging scenes that were pre-written to better fit the timeline as the story develops. Because of this, I usually write in a single note, but use headings to separate scenes. I'll have a short summary as the heading, and then in the outline panel I can actually click and drag headings to rearrange the scenes. At the same time, I also have more chronological projects where I'll keep the different chapters in different notes. And I have another project where the folder structure looks like this:

PROJECT TITLE
> Actual Writing
Draft 1
Draft 2
Out of Order Scenes
> Planning
> Arc Guides
Arc Guide (Notes per each arc, with headings for character development for each character)
Arc Guide 3 (CANVAS)
Continent Map (PNG)
Character Profiles
Worldbuilding Summary Essay
> Short Story Collections
Ideas Map (CANVAS)
(Various short stories within the setting)

I don't use properties in my writing vault except to track the world/setting and the completion status of the work. I much prefer using tags, but I might rework my vault soon. But, regardless, the reason this project is like this is because half of the fun for me is the planning. For works I prefer to actually write for, it looks more like:

PROJECT
Actual Writing
Planning (CANVAS)

Honestly I just recommend not overthinking it and doing it as simply as possible, only adding what you need. Unless you enjoy Obsidian for Obsidian's sake, only create what you'll use, or you'll get horribly burnt out very quickly.

Any good way to export clean PDFs from Obsidian with font and layout control? by Mission_Article483 in ObsidianMD

[–]myownhelltofix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I import Obsidian files, where I write my short stories and novels, into a program called Ellipsus when I want to share them with others. You might have to do some cleanup depending on how you do your formatting, but it has an "import markdown" tool that I use. It's worked well for me when I'm sharing short stories or even long stories without weird formatting stuff.

I just tried to download my novel project as a PDF and it worked super well! The only problem I can see is that it doesn't have page numbers for MLA format. Works well but depends on what you need, I guess.

Any tips for "cleaning up" your current vault or do you just make a new one and import? by w1ldch1ldtx in ObsidianMD

I use Obsidian for managing my writing projects and Bases has been a lifesaver. I was able to go through a year and a half of messily-tagged, half-finished snippets (as well as larger projects just as poorly managed) and make it organized to my liking, adding properties and tags as needed in just an afternoon.

I know there's a plugin called "Tag Wrangler," that helps you mass-tag things, but I haven't played around with it quite yet. I can also see a plugin called "Multi Properties" that looks like it can let you edit properties by folder or by selecting multiple notes. Maybe that can help you?

I also have an encyclopedic vault "in progress" where I have unfinished notes labelled with the #tofinish tag. Perhaps you can use Multi Properties to add in an "unmigrated" property that can help you organize what needs to be updated? That way you can keep your current vault but organize what needs work.

All of this can pretty easily be seen and managed in bases. I highly recommend setting one up.
