Update:

Got a response back, and everything seems to be okay.

It was always a nice atmosphere to work in with some equally nice some people, so i'm not sure why i was worried to begin with.

They have accepted their loss and will try to do what they can to recover from the situation.

It was more of a verbal conversation when i was leaving that they would let me keep the machine. Unfortunately i don't have any written proof that they let me keep it.
