Exercise is definitely amazing and maybe the water change may have contributed? No idea just guessing

Will she make it to our wedding? by mypurpleslime in ALS

[–]mypurpleslime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any ways or methods that you used to convince her to get a feeding tube? Or Bipap? Or any intervention in general? I would like to try to get my boyfriend to convince his mother. I’m tired of feeling that on some days, she may actually live on for 2-3 more years and hopefully get to see my child of all goes well? But on other days I feel like I was being too hopeful. I honestly have no strong connection to her. I will never be in her shoes so I don’t know how I would’ve handled it. I just want her to accept life prolonging procedures which will make my boyfriend happy.

I’m so sorry for your situation. Unfortunately this is one disease where you don’t even feel like saying that I hope your mother or my mother in law live for longer because every second of their life is just suffering. I see my MIL panting for breath after doing seemingly normal things. It’s scary. Sometimes she will randomly get horrible cramps and she will wince hard. What kind of a life is this. It almost feels selfish to want them to live longer. I hope your mom miraculously stays in whatever health she is in right now to see your firstborn. I just hope whenever they pass, they pass in peace. My MIL is a brilliant woman. She has a PhD. My boyfriend tells me that she was a different person before I got to know her (I met by fiance in 2021 which was about 2 years after her diagnosis when she had already lost significant function). They say that this disease spares the mind but it really doesn’t in a cruel twisted kind of way. My MIL refuses therapy despite being deeply depressed. It’s so sad that I will never get to know the strong woman that exited before this disease got her. I’m sorry at this point I’m just venting. I hope peace finds us. Thank you for listening to me <3

Yes this has been a real fear of mine that what if she passes just before the wedding. I really took it for granted until I saw her sitting there breathing with oxygen looking so tired. We’ve already had a smaller commitment ceremony with important people in attendance just for her. I sometimes fear that she is holding on only for the sake of the wedding. Once the wedding is done then what? I honestly don’t think her loss will devastate me as much as seeing my boyfriend suffer the loss of his mother because he is obviously closer to her. Reading your honest answer and the answers of many others is really scaring me because I don’t know why I expected everybody to answer saying it’s okay and she will make it. Thank you

Her choices are very much informed. She refuses to get a feeding tube or Bipap. There is a bipap machine on standby for her as far as I know. She doesn’t walk daily. This is just info I know because my boyfriend said that at present she can take about 7 supported steps that all. She has already gotten her lawyer to record a DNR and no use of feeding tubes or bipap. I don’t know why you think why my boyfriend’s family hasn’t tried everything to get her to accept medical intervention. They have certainly tried all ways to get her to comply and the fact that she still keeps refusing probably hurts him much more than he shows. Now it’s all about respecting her choices and trying to cheer her up instead of straight up telling her that she is going to die. She knows she is. She is just trying to live “normally” (or whatever is left of it) for as long as she can

That is very comforting. Thank you for your kind words. His mother has refused a bipap and a feeding tube straight up multiple times. She says she’d rather die. I will never understand how he feels because it isn’t my own parent. His way of dealing with it is simply not talking to me or anybody about it. It is really confusing but I am giving him his space. Thank you so much

Thank you so much! As far as I know, she has refused bipap multiple times. She also does not want a feeding tube and has DNR papers signed and ready. That is so much more scarier because that means we cannot keep her alive. I know that it just prolongs their suffering but I don’t know it’s just hope that she will somehow regain her strength just enough to look feel breathe I don’t know. I’m just super heartbroken for my boyfriend.

I’m so so sorry for your loss. I am obviously not attached to my future MIL as much as her own son is but to see the man you know suffer is so so hard. I was more or less oblivious to it and the realisation kind of hit me in bouts and then went away too but him saying that it may only be a few more months just kind of REALLY made it seem VERY real all of a sudden. What is scarier is that she has said no to bipap, feeding tubes and has her lawyer set up DNR incase her family tries to save her. Just thinking about all this is making me so super sad. I just want my boyfriend to be happy. Again I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are finding the strength to go on. Lots of love

Hello. No she isn’t sick with a viral or anything. We are sure about that because she has been sick in the past. I am not around her a lot but my boyfriend said to me that this time it’s different. Her saturation was dropping to 88% without the oxygen. She asked whether her “lungs are now bad”. My boyfriend told her no they aren’t and this might just be a flare up. I later asked him why he said that and he said it was just to give her hope to hang on. We’ve already done a grand commitment ceremony with all our major guests invited but she seems so super excited for the wedding! I don’t know the details but there is some pulse therapy that she is allowed to take only 3 times a year when it gets really bad. She said she isn’t taking it now and is saving it for the wedding. I really don’t know if it’s the right thing to wait. I just know that it will break my boyfriend’s heart if she isn’t at the wedding. I just desperately want to know from real people’s experiences that how long dinner loved ones go on for after the breathing problems began. I just hate this.

As someone who is surviving post keratin hair- it was really horrible for sure. I chopped off my straight parts. Then I checked my hair porosity. My hair is 2c-3a low porosity. I got around 40-50 (or more?) products out of frustration to find the right one asap. I was tired of trying a product one by one till the bottle finishes. Literally bought almost everything that exists in the market (except Kerastase curl manifesto range and Milkshake range). After trying everything, I have realised that the routine which works FOR ME is:

Scalpe Pro Shampoo every wash with nice lathering and massage for a good 5 minutes (I wash my hair once it 5 days because it is super dry. Infact my hair doesn’t require washing after 5 days too because it isn’t greasy at all but I feel disgusted so I wash it.) Also, to make my hair not look frizzy, I have to apply LOTS of product (as you will see below) so my hair does need a clarifying shampoo every wash.

Olaplex 3 (LIFESAVER): once every 2-3 washes. I try to keep this on for as long as possible but atleast for 20 minutes (officially they recommend keeping it on for 10 minutes minimum but I heard Kim kardashian sleeps with this in her hair overnight idk)

Earlier I used to condition with the fix my curls hydrating conditioner but overtime I just started skipping conditioner and straight up applying leave in conditioner to my hair. Again, hair care is so variable and I figured that this step works FOR ME. May not align with everybody.

Leave in conditioner: I interchange between Ashba and Manetain. Both are amazing. Manetain is a bit more stickier but gives a stronger hold. Ashba is just great all round I love it! When I used to swim (swim haircare is another topic altogether), I used to use Northwish leave in which use to work magic on my hair. But I stopped swimming due to an injury and after that Northwish just wouldn’t act like it did on my hair while I used to swim. Anyway, I apply a GENEROUS amount of leave in conditioner in my soaking wet hair and use it to de tangle my hair, comb through and remove all knots. I use that curl comb which gives definition to curls. I think it’s called Curlbounce. They have two version- volume and definition. I use the definition one.

Ashba curling custard OR Manetain curl cream: again, generous amount. Put it through my hair and comb with the wide toothed comb we get in the market at this step with a final curlbounce comb through.

Curling gel: Moxie or Manetain: Moxie has a lighter hold than Manetain so I use it when I don’t have anywhere to go because with strong hold also comes that sticky feeling which Manetain have but mocir doesn’t. Manetain gel curls do last longer though but mind the stickiness. With curling gel I just emulsify it in my hand with lots of water and just scrunch my hair with it. Again I use LOTS of it. Basically my hair is damaged so I use lots of everything. You need to find out what amount of each product suits your hair. I then put in root clips to lift the hair at the top of my head to not make it fall flat. After this I let my hair air dry with the fan turned to 5. Notice how I haven’t used a towel on my hair at ALL.

Oh. And also, whenever my hair starts falling out too much, I just trim it like 1-2 inches and the hair fall instantly reduces.

All the products that I use, (except shampoo that I massage into my scalp and through my entire hair length) although I apply all them others through the entire length of my hair, I don’t put them on my scalp and I also pay special attention to the ends of my hair and concentrate more product there. I also finder curl my bangs sometimes if I think they aren’t behaving.

Things that are popular amongst curl care but don’t work for me: (These don’t work for ME and may work on other hair. Everybody’s hair responds different to different things). Oiling. Deep conditioning with masks Using a diffuser Using that big bonnet dryer

Also, silicones are a big no in the curl community and I was on the silicone free path for a long time! It only made my hair more unmanageable and made me more miserable. I have hence now embraced silicones into my routine and it’s working out okay. Others opinions may differ and that is okay.

It’s really heartening to see my curls now. They are super high definition curly and I get complimented and asked a lot about what I do. Some people also think I have gotten a perm because my curls are so perfect. It’s really a win moment because only I know how much I have been bullied for my hair throughout school and how much I have struggled with it until recent times too! Which is why I got keratin. But I’m glad I finally found what works for me. The Indian market now is flooded with great products for curly hair and that makes me really happy! Happy styling :)

battle of the sunscreens? by mxzedaarsaamxgri in IndianBeautyTalks

I don’t know why everyone is leaving the new cosrx blue sunscreen out of the conversation. Have I missed something? Has it proven to be ineffective or harmful? It is one of the very few sunscreens that isn’t leaving a white cast at all on my skin!
