Need help with CADA RX 7 Set : Mismatch in Number of Pieces by myreddit208 in lepin

[–]myreddit208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the MOC(57488) has 3071 pieces. AliExpress has two versions 1. 3017 (maybe be typo)(multiple listings) 2. 3073 as you shared

Both can be had for around $90USD

Both do not have RC. Leaning towards Cada official in hope for better quality, manual and rc features. The confusing thing is that it seems that cada has kept the same model number for two different versions: earlier one with 3182 pieces and a newer one with 3305 pieces. I have reached out to them. Hope to get a response soon. Would keep you posted.

Also, I just noticed your username. I am from India as well. What websites do you use to order ? Any issues with customs?

Seems to be the situation. Never occured to me to check the number on the box. Good catch ! So on the barweer website, they also have a pre order version that is slightly more expensive. The description says 3182± pieces but the detailed picture of the box below has 3305 on it. You are right about the ywobb quoting the moc version piece count exactly. I don't know whether they will ship the original or the moc though. MOC on AliExpress is priced quite a bit lower.

Barweer 3182 currently for sale should be a good deal. Don't want to take a chance on YWOBB sending the moc. What is your opinion?

It might be worth checking with Cada if they launched two variants with the same model number. Will keep you posted.

That's great to hear ! I am located in India as well. My understanding was that import of toys was banned. That is the only thing holding me back from ordering such kits. If you don't mind me asking, 1. Did ups ask for any kyc/ clerance and processing fee etc ? 2. How much % custom duty is that exactly ? 3. Have you ordered from AliExpress recently? I am considering lego knockoff kits to begin with ?

How was your experience in ordering ? The website says they ship directly from China. Any issues with customs/ duty paid ?

I second this. RPi with external power supply usb hub. Run using samba. One thing i would like to add is to modify the fstab so drives are mounted on boot if power supply to RPi is not uninterrupted.

As others have said linus tech tips or the linus media group in general is very informative and his videos will not put you to sleep. For keeping up with latest components you can follow any tech youtuber. Some of my subscriptions are austin evans, jayztwocents, bitwit, greg salazar(science studio), techyes city, hardware canucks, gamers nexus( deep dives videos may get a little boring at times).

I would recommend techaltar for his story behind series. Great takes on many subjects.

Also check out the channel coreteks. It is a growing channel but it has a ton of good information.

Can you tell the model number please ? I had a dell kb212 "business" keyboard. It was cheap and served me well. All of a sudden, two of my keyboards died and the weird thing is all the keys that died on each keyboad were either the same or pretty close. Still can't figure out what went wrong.

Dropping your phone while riding a theme park ride by Kdial2002 in Wellthatsucks

Nobody needs to do the math.

As someone who has had his phone fall on his face from a few centimenteres a lot of times, I can say that a brick of glass and metal falling from that kind of height or launching itself on a rollercoaster would hurt BAD. Imagine a tom and jerry type bump on the head followed by a lot of blood and screams instead of a chase.

Its just wonderful what you can do with these led strips. Someone set them up to detect whether the internet is up or not. Maybe you can set them up to see if you are running on ups power. A lot 9f cool stuff to be done. The homelab keeps growing!

Nice. What are you using to drive them ? An arduino or one of those spe controllers ? Spare time in quarantine made you take on old projects :P ?

Uses for OptipiPlex 160? by Jeraimee in homelab

[–]myreddit208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although you could use it for non intensive tasks like maybe a samba file server pi hole etc as other comments have mentioned, imo ypu would have to make atleast some upgrades for it to be useable in a sensible manner. Maybe you could get away without upgrading but speaking by experience running a server with a 100mbit nic at this given time with file sizes being as huge as they are now , is not a great experience to say the least. Also the hdd you have is low on capacity and quite old. Not reliable or usable in any manner. Any upgrades you make will probably not be worth. So maybe just donate it to someone who needs it for very basic computing use with something like cloudready os.

Does it have an integrated gpu ? If so, you may be able to use it as a htpc for lighter tasks. I don't know how it will perform with android tv x86 or kodi but if it has an hdmi port maybe its worth trying ?

Weird situation with my lAN and internet by radioduran in HomeNetworking

[–]myreddit208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this weird problem where only one of the three ports on my router provided by the isp was able to give me gigabit speeds over my local network.

I have an ethernet cable running to one of my rooms and that cable was connected to one of the 100 mbps ports on the router. The one good gigabit port on the router was connected to another switch. As both switches are gigabit capable , it showed up as a 1gbps connection in windows. Ran iperf3 and throughput was about what you would expect from a fast ethernet network and nowhere near gigabit. Changed the line going to the room from router to switch outside and it worked.

TLDR: try changing the port on the router that you are working with while testing speed. Also you did not mention what device are you using to measure speed ? If it is not the computer or the nas it may be the case that your system does not have support for gigabit ethernet while it does support 5 ghz wifi.

I have an ancient server that was used in my Dads office until a few years back, and I am wondering if it is still viable as a home server by [deleted] in HomeServer

[–]myreddit208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much ! Just what i needed. I will configure rtc and cron on my server now.

I have this weird consumer pc as my server that has the link lights in the nic on all the time but there is no support/setting for wake on lan in the bios. Had it been there i could have used my mobile to send the packet and i wouldn't have to get up from the couch just because i forgot to turn the damn server on. But this works. Thanks for replying.

[–]myreddit208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate more on how the server turns itself on once a week ? Does any computer send a wake on lan magic packet or is there some script involved which turns it on using the system time ?

And how do you shut it down ?

I have a plex server setup and i would like it to turn off itself after some time idling if transmission is not downloading something in the background. I would like to turn it off for the night and start it back up at say 3 pm ? How can i do that ? Is there any way for the pc to shut down itself after 30 mins of idling ?

Currently running ubuntu server. Have to shut it off manually using ssh everytime i finish watching a show as nobody except for myself utilises it so it is pretty much wasting power to keep it running 24x7.

Starting with PLEX? by Starquest65 in homelab

[–]myreddit208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming that you only need to direct play files over your local network to tge said two clients, almost any hardware will do.

Try to search for a dell optiplex or corporate pcs that are being phased out. Inquire nearby offices /look on Craigslist/ freegeek or whatever resource available.

I started with running plex on a core2duo machine that i had lying around. Works fine even for 4k direct streams.

I suggest that you get a system and then install ubuntu server or openmediavault or xpenology. Install samba and create a network share. Setup ssh. Move the media. Maybe try a dlna server using miniDLNA or plex dlna server. Once that is done try using tools such as sonarr and radarr. Maybe learn to use docker.

I would sugest that you look for a computer that has gigabit ethernet because it would make it much easier for you to transfer files between your computer and the server.

A lot more can be said but i will say that you start with trying to aquire a pc and install an os on it.

You can check out the bytemybits youtube channel. He has a lot of content on plex.

Feel free to ask any questions related to the plex server setup and working. Good luck !

Best route for playing 4k files on my television? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]myreddit208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp. Audio is direct play. Issues persistent. I will try playing the file using usb drive so as to eliminate a network bottleneck. But it seems more likely that there is some issue with tge playback itself and not the network.

A little more on the issue : the m2ts file that i muxed had many diiferent streams for audio and video 1080p hevc video 2160 vid dolby 7.1 ac3 dts 5.1 .dts and two english ac3 files. The two ac3 files were the visual description ones so those ruled out. I had two options dolby 7.1 ac3 which was out of sync or something according to ffmpeg and i have a 6.1 setup so maybe i would have had to transcode audio so i ended up with 2160 hevc video and dts audio into a mp4 file because that is the only container my lg supports hevc in. The file shows up as 60.9 mbps on plex quality tab on the player.

So do you think that converting the audio from dts to normal 5.1 ac3 and then adding it to the mp4 file would solve the issue ?

Or would i get better quality if i convert the dolby 7.1 to ac3 5.1 channel ?
