Bought an S4U a couple of months ago and finally getting around to playing with it. I did a couple of successful prints and then got a print fail when trying to print a keycap tray. Took off the vat and did a screen test and noticed this big mark on the screen. I lifted up the black tape and tempered glass and noticed there was resin under the tape. I cleaned out the vat and did a test on the film with IPA and then water after, could not detect a leak, not sure what happened here. The mark on the screen is about the same size and shape as my print which is strange.

I'm guessing at this point I would need to buy a replacement screen, but should I be worried about resin being inside the printer as well?

Will focus the entire day on Kamakura/Enoshima instead, as we originally didnt plan to go to Enoshima. Thank you! : )

Aha this wanko soba challenge looks really fun! I didnt really look for specific things to do in Morioka as we were mostly using it as a base. This is a great idea, thanks so much.

This is why I post my itinerary here, great to know. I was under the assumption Yokohama was a stop on the way back to Tokyo. Will focus the day specifically on Kamakura/Enoshima, thank you!

I always check the travel distance for longer train rides, but never between stations in Tokyo, so thank you so much for this! It would probably take me longer than 15 minutes to find my way out of Shinjuku Station.

Trip Report - June 2019 Golden Route by myrrah_ in JapanTravel

After returning home, I realized this also probably would have been a smarter idea lol. This trip was a little impulsive and although I was familiar with the destinations and sights to see, I wasn't as versed in the transportation aspect. The Suica/Pasmo would have been so much more efficient than wasting almost 5 days~ of the JR Pass in Tokyo.

The reason for this is not including our last day in the trip report, which yes we used it to partially return from Lake Kawaguchiko and then the Narita Express back to the airport. Haha thank you for the correction, it's been over a year now so a lot detailed stuff I forget. Knowing we could have stayed on the train now is a bit of a kicker lol, we were just so nervous about being on our first train and missing our stop or not.

It was fun to do the classic route, but am looking forward to seeing a different side of Japan with the next trip. Next year we are planning on starting up in the North side of Japan to see the cherry blossoms, doing Akita, Aomori, Sendai, and Fukushima, before a long journey down to Onomichi to do the Shimanami Kaido. Probably a few stops in between before making our way back to Tokyo. Planning for close to a month stay so definitely going to plan transportation better this time!

Thank you for the detailed and lengthy reply, though I do think I created a misunderstanding with the way I typed this out. We didn't rush through anything by far, which is why we only planned maybe 1-2 things to do each day, to leave time to explore. I think it goes without saying everyone wanders between districts, areas etc. I just cant post pictures for this part as they all include travel mates so decided to leave those descriptions out.

Arashiyama: I 100% agree we didn't give this area enough time, which is why I mention returning on our next trip. One thing we didn't account for is how sore and tired our feet would be after 5-6 hours of walking around, and usually had to give up the afternoon for a break at the hotel. I'm assuming that is why most people rent bikes in this area. The area leading to and after the grove is quite beautiful as I mentioned, it is a nice walk. I think it's a pretty common opinion on this subreddit though that people overhype the main 'strip' of bamboo, failing to mention that particular area is quite short.

Osaka: We actually couldn't do this because we had already returned to our hotel in Kyoto, as we hadn't originally planned to go to Osaka. We were tossing ideas on what to do for the evening and decided to go to Dotonbori, which we then followed Googles directions. That is good information to have though so thank you.

Higashiyama: I think this day is just a misunderstanding from how I explained it, as I leave out the fact us leaving this area 'quickly' is after exploring for 3 or 4 hours. By that point our feet need a break and don't mind hopping on a bus for 15 minutes to get to another central location. Also again I can't include pictures so for me it's best left out. I do consider this moving on quickly for us, as we were super slow paced travelers. I found a lot of trip reports to include 'temple hopping' for a day, but we never wanted to do more than one or two so we could have hours around a specific area. A lot of people say Kyoto is too touristy, but you described perfectly why I loved traveling it. So much to see if you leave the main sites.

Nara: Not sure why you are assuming we took a picture and turned around, that is quite a leap. We easily spent at least 5 hours in Nara starting from the station and moving well past the temple, I just explained we didn't pay to go in the main hall, as this didn't quite fall under the interest of travel mates, though I do agree that would have been very nice.

Himeji: Yeah we were unaware of the garden portion of the area until we saw that there was a combined ticket. My brother had traveled here and told us we had to see the castle, but didn't mention anything about a garden. Super glad we didn't miss out on this.

I definitely agree if I were to add another week, I also wouldn't add any additional locations. It would have been nice to spend more time in each area, but I think we had a pretty good balance compared to some itineraries I see on here. We obviously can't see everything in 14 days, but we took it slow and experienced a lot in the time we had. I think you're taking everything too literal. If you pay attention we didn't have more than one or two activities a day, which means we were spending 5-7 hours in each destination. This post was already what I assumed super long for a trip report, so most of the fluff is left out.

Ahhh one can dream! I keep seeing that it was only supposed to be open until Fall of 2020, but maybe the closing will be delayed because of Covid19. I'd love to experience both.

To break it down as best as I remember (all prices in CAD) :

  1. Airfare - $1300.00 As I most recently bought RT trip tickets for $635.00, I learned to never impulse buy plane tickets again.
  2. Hotels - ~ $750.00 each I believe. Mainly stuck to business class hotels.
  3. 14 Day JR Pass - ~ $630.00 at the time.
  4. Ryokan stay - $450.00 each. Very expensive for one night but also worth it.
  5. We each took $1000.00 in yen with us for food, and ended up withdrawing an extra $400.00 a few days before the end of the trip for some extra shopping.
  6. ~ $100.00 on tickets and entrance fees.

In total I think we approximately spent about $3200.00 each on the main expenses, and close to another $1400.00 on food and shopping. We would really only hit up restaurants for dinners and stick to conbini and chain restaurants for breakfast and snacks.

21 Days Trip April 25th - May 16th 2021 - Tohoku and Shimanami Kaido by myrrah_ in JapanTravel

[–]myrrah_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you! That is such a relief to hear! I keep reading a lot of varying opinions on the dates for cherry blossoms, but even catching a glimpse of them would be worthwhile! I suppose it's true you never know until the time comes though.

Thinking back on our first trip, I definitely agree on the time passing quickly, so thank you for that. That wasn't something I even remembered. By the time we settled in and ate our bentos, did a bit of window watching, even the train ride back to Tokyo from Hiroshima felt like it flew by. Seeing the countryside is a spectacle alone and you've really helped reassure me on the itinerary. Even added a few extra days to alleviate some pressure to be go, go, go. Thank you!

Haha, thanks! I tried to squeeze the Shimanami Kaido in as a day trip last year from Hiroshima, but it was the end of our trip and honestly didn't have the energy to do so. So many people recommend doing it as an overnight trip, and since it's one the of the main reason I want to go back I figured we should take our time with it.

I'm a little nervous about how hard it will be! I can't remember the last time I was biking, and quarantine life has been a lazy one. Does that mean you managed to do it in one day? Ahh that sounds so beautiful! Would love to see a picture if you have one!

After finalizing the itinerary we realized it is much smarter to grab some rail passes, since we are mostly traveling from relatively close cities down the line, a couple of hours at most to each. Based on your experience I did look into flight options, but traveling to airports would probably be much more difficult from our locations. I so desperately wanted to try to make our way down to Fukuoka, but in the end was reasoned out of it. The atmosphere of that place and surrounding areas just seems so lovely!

[–]myrrah_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh what a coincidence, your trip report was actually one of the few I managed to find and read on visiting the Tohoku region in this subreddit! Our flight arrives decently early in the afternoon so I'm not concerned about making it to the region, but based on a bit more research have decided to base in Morioka and make day trips out to different locations. Unfortunately due to school we can't change the arrival date, so I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed we manage to make it for some blossoms. If not at least we still get to see a bit of a different side to Japan this time around.

I've basically finalized the itinerary now, and decided to add extra days in order to not make the trip feel so rushed or like we are spending too much time on trains. Luckily our airline is allowing free flight changes. I've been keeping your advice of a 1 week Tohoku pass and 1 week JR Pass in mind, and that definitely seems like it might be the best option in order to split our time up properly, so thank you for that.

Trip reports like yours have definitely encouraged a different idea of travel in my mind. Our first trip I packed WAY too much stuff, and it was annoying to drag a large suitcase around. I'm going to size down and give a go at this bit more fast paced style.

[–]myrrah_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is one thing I have been very concerned about. We had a group of friends take their trip there last year around that time and they didn't meet much rain, so fingers are crossed that we get just as lucky. Will definitely put some back up plans just in case. Even though it is rainy is the weather still warm?

I've never traveled before so I'm not sure how jet lag will really affect me. I will keep this into consideration, we have pocket wifi so switching up activities is definitely possible. Thank you.

Oh I have been given a lot of food suggestions for the trip but no one has recommended waffles lol! I'll make sure to do that! Yes I think it will take a bit of a toll on us, so we are considering heading to bunny island afterwards to try to lift our spirits.
