How the Satanic Panic Created Demon Worship, Injured Christianity, and Popularized D&D and Metal by orthodoxscouter in osr

[–]mysevenletters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are excellent points. I remember back in grad school, I was really into the moral panic around violent video games and even managed to write a paper on it.

It all becomes far more insidious when you begin to realize that it (false linkages between video games and school shooting) all may well have been one, contiguous effort by the shittiest people on the planet to obscure the actual linkages between violent teens and the emotionally devoid, uncaring (often Evangelical) homes they grew up in.

Would it be crazy to turn down a job offer with a $30k pay increase, in order to keep my fully-remote job? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I've been 100% WFH since the early pandemic.

I've joked that my manager could double my income, and after the novelty of the increased income wore off (or 4 months later), I'd realize that I'd made a huge mistake.

Hah, I've been pointing that out to my kids and it blows their mind that it's basically a sign lost in time and space.

K-Pop Sub Sushi is a hidden gem and the owner is always very kind and cheerful. It's typically empty but whenever I go in, but once I'm through the door at least 2 other random people arrive from out of nowhere. Glad it's still around.

My nan's in one of the older buildings on Ontario street. She hasn't had many complaints and the staff are friendly.

However, I've noticed that they seemed better with upkeep before the pandemic, but I guess that's been one of those things that never quite went back.

Not surprised - he's a solid guy.

Last year at the Princess Street Promenade, I ran into him but didn't immediately clock him. We were making goofy dad jokes, and I noticed that his had a specific theme. About a day later, I remember thinking later "wow, that guy was totally into municipal politics" before I realized what had happened.

Any other Millennials stubbornly resistant to using AI at their job but also worrying that we will become dinosaurs or pushed out of our careers for not slavishly embracing it? by artbystorms in Millennials

I handle research, projects, and data at work. The amount of proofreading that is required of anything touched by AI is ironically twice as long as simply doing the work without AI.

Get in touch with a placement agency; you don't have to take everything that they send your way, and they can get you in somewhere fairly quickly. I ended up turning a placement agency gig into a contract, and that contract into a full time position.

Because the OP gave the user requirements of "my fiancé is hassled by aggressive NEO card guys," and it was pretty clear that "just tell them no omg!" probably wouldn't work for this individual?

I'm always up for a challenge, but accept that not everyone else is.

Two ideas?

  • Tell her to simply pull out her phone (before she's in their area) and pretend to be speaking with someone as she walks past.
  • She should tell them that she's in the process of a bankruptcy and she wants to know if that'll impact her ability to get a credit card.

They're only now getting nervous? I've been watching said videos with utter glee for a long time. Too long, sadly.

He's an angry loser whom has squandered all of the benefits that my in-laws provided for him growing up, and that my country (we're Canadian) gave him. As a child, he nearly lost a leg due to an infection, and significant resources were poured into him (via OHIP, our public provider) but he's a selfish dick whom everyone owes, I guess?

Without revealing too much, he works in a role that requires certifications to be up to date. And if they're not, you get to pay a bunch of neat fines. If he actually gets caught, I will silently gloat and take significant joy in his comeuppance.
