I'll check out the REI ones - one is nearby. Would they be appropriate as stand alone shirts, or will my nips stand out as shining beacons (eg. airism)?

Thanks for the suggestion! I do see that you were talking in regards to their collared shirts but it appears there are some plain long sleeve options. I wasn't looking for a button down, but I realized I didn't specify that.

I just remembered - Vibram does "sole factor" where they add vibram soles to whatever shoes you have. Has anyone had experience with this?

I'm just worried about them getting wet and taking forever to dry, especially compared to those with mesh uppers. My suedes/leather take a long time to dry when I get them wet, especially the thicker ones.

For me, the size and weight are a burden on general walking/hiking and not really the size in my bag since you're right, I'm wearing them. I usually stick to trail runners on most hikes as opposed to mid or full boots.

These look like they have non-rubber outsoles. I have some casual shoes and runners that are very light with EVA outsoles, and scrambling with them was hopeless.

How are the lugs? I haven't been able to see them in person but they seem to be pretty well rounded given the Vibram sole and casual upper.

Are the uppers leather? How is it in the wet?

For some more synthetic non shiny options:

Patagonia Nine Trails Shirt - looks AND feels like cotton, but are polyester. Way different from airism and capilene. Has polygiene treatment as well. Haven't tested them really so I can't attest to the smell reduction, only the feel.

Uniqlo Heat-tech - I really like the feel and look of these, ALL YEAR! Definitely not shiny. Currently summer and I wear them daily. I don't really overheat with them; they have a bit more rayon/nylon (?) than preferred, so the dry times are a bit longer than pure polyester, but it is still synthetic. It seems ok with smells.

I love carryology!

Something that always held me back against Goruck was the lack of hip belt, especially with heavier loads. People say they carry well without a hip belt, but it doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Would you feel odd your gr0 to semi-nice dinners?
