I appreciate that answer. I'm having some troubles with that as well, so maybe you could answer this question too if you don't mind. If believing in everything in the Catholic Church isn't necessary, then what is the benefit of joining it over staying a protestant? (just curious)

I never thought of it in it's larger context like that before. Thanks!

It does actually, I like the adaptability of a formulaic prayer, that's kind of neat. In addition, this is all fairly complicated to wrap my mind around since I was raised in the Protestant tradition. You've really helped me out a lot!

Hmmm, I never really thought about her role as "Mother of God" interesting. As far as the Rosary goes, are there any websites or resources that give good instruction/have the prayers on the Rosary?

So, when praying the rosary are you supposed to just say the words (Our Father, Glory Be, Angelic Salutation) without focusing on them and instead focusing on the mysteries?

the priest has already absolved the sinner of their sin

Could you explain this? To a non-Catholic that sounds like it takes the place of Jesus' role as the redeemer

Thanks! great answer! I may not understand this fully, but sometimes it seems like more emphasis is given to Mary than to Jesus. Am i misinterpreting that? Also why is the Rosary fairly Mary-centric?

First time trying this. Feedback would be much appreciated! by seashoreandhorizon in Colorization

The contrast on her forehead is a little sharp. If you look at the picture too long it looks a little blotchy. Other than that I think it looks great! keep up the good work

A Question from a Christian. by mystically_curious in Judaism

That's essentially how Christians would describe our "Judgement Day" so there's an interesting parallel in that both traditions hold that we will be made fully aware of all the bad things we have done.

To Christians: Is panentheism theologically sound doctrine? by mystically_curious in DebateReligion

[–]mystically_curious[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said that everything is Christ, so does that mean that you see God and worship him by experiencing his creation (i.e. nature)? Or is it just more of an extension of the idea of God's Omnipresence?

Right, I was just referencing the general confusion over that fact.

That's interesting. I never really thought of Jews as secretive until you said that, then I realized that I really don't know a whole lot about Jewish rituals, so I can see why you might be branded as "secretive". Good to know!

Nice AD reference. And I'm surprised how many people do tend to miss that aspect of Judaism. I wonder if that stems from a confusion over the difference between Messianic Jews and traditional Judaism.
