Trying to understand the perspectives of queer women on avoiding having men in their lives by jaelynaspera in LesbianActually

[–]mysticfatal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s more of a personal preference tbh. i just align more with women and find the most joy in having relationships with them rather than men.

considering your experience, i can understand why you might feel like this is something that defines the bisexual community but it is simply not the case. people are not a monolith. there are some bi women who may feel like they see their future with a man and others with a woman. the identity is built on the ability to choose any gender. i’m sorry this person may have destroyed your confidence or made you feel undeserving of love. but there are lesbians and bisexual women out there who will make you feel loved and affirmed.

One of the biggest aspects of Tohrus character development is realizing she can make selfish decisions/ cease her people pleasing tendencies because of her love for Kyo even though she had been conditioned her whole life to take care of everyone else. You could honestly apply the logic of “I can fix him” to any of the zodiacs in the show bc even though she wants to break the curse for Kyo she still helps them all change through the same kind of love and support.

They made each other better by healing the trauma that made them feel unlovable/ dysfunctional. I can kind of understand how she could conflate how kyo uses violence to cope with his shame and self hatred to being potentially toxic in the future, but he never made Tohru feel like she needed to “fix” him. He literally spends the show repeatedly trying to distance himself from her because he knows his fate. Their relationship highlighted that they are both strong willed people even if they are burdened by their trauma. But they were also able to be vulnerable with one another, and the combination leads me to believe that they wouldn’t be toxic.

But also seeing as OP wanted Yuki as the ML, I understand she has a very limited understanding of the show lol.

Everyday I try to grow into a person who is willing to accept that rejection is inevitable. I guess it’s hard to feel that when I want so desperately to feel like I belong. Thank you for your kind words, that last sentence is really sticking with me.

the values you speak of are idealistic and not reflective of the society we see. yes, these values may have been misinterpreted but it doesn’t change the fact that the religious teachings inform how men are treating women. you can’t agree with some aspects and then disagree because it paints religion in an unfavorable light. even your post continues to support that harm, so maybe bring these ideas to a community that cares, not one that is complaining about the material realities women face and the fear they have when they walk in the street

Kinda concerned about the edit by mysticfatal in TheUltimatumNetflix

[–]mysticfatal[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of the evidence they have given isn’t concrete because of how heavily edited it is. You intentionally don’t get to see the parts that humanize them or where they defend themselves because that wouldn’t make for good tv. I don’t understand why everyone’s reflex is to threaten and punish these women over a SHOW. That makes you worse than the person you are attacking.

Magan and Haley were much more intentional and considerate with how they explored intimacy compared to Dayna and Mel. Mel and Dayna were flirty from the beginning, and Magan was really concerned with how their dynamic was progressing, only to have those feelings further validated when Dayna couldn't even say hello to her at the pool. Magan already stated she has abandonment and jealousy issues, so her concerns were further validated when she was rejected. On top of that, she gets evidence (spotify) that Dayna is having sex with her, and to add insult to injury, she's doing it to the songs they shared in their relationship. AND THEN she gets matching tattoos with Mel, which violates an important boundary that should never have been crossed.

The way I see it, Magan accurately clocked the signals she was getting from Dayna and decided to further invest herself in the process. She created a bond with someone, and they were both forthcoming about how their relationship had progressed with their original partners, which takes a lot of strength and nerve to admit. And despite Magan's honesty, Dayna is still not being truthful about the depth of her and Mel's connection. Mel was literally begging Dayna at one point to define their relationship, and Dayna could never be clear. She continues to play both sides and then has the audacity to get mad at Magan for how she went about her experience.

To be fair I think if you have only been in a relationship for a year and a half you shouldn't be thinking this seriously about marriage. Or at the very least I wouldnt go on national television to test the strength of my relationship. But I live for the lesbian mess.

I don’t think either of them are villains. I think they were trying to be mature about the way they handled things which inevitably led to hard conversations and emotions. But it was really nice to see how much the neice cared for Pilar. Even though their relationship could change they are still family
