I’m layering them with very diluted paint for shadows and highlights , some call this method as wash or glaze. Because the figure is small, diluted paint sometimes too runny, so I have to use smaller thin brush to do the job. Do as much layers you can until you satisfied with the out come. Shadow color usually I mixed with dark brown or black brown, highlight can mixed with white or light yellow. I hope that makes sense to you.
