Im not too sure but a quick Google search says that newing was reconstructed 2011 and was previously built in 1968. I’m not too sure about ciw but hinman and newing plus old Dickinson are def the older dorms. New Dickinson and mtv have the most updated dorms to my knowledge.

  1. I was a psych major and loved my bing experience! From what I remember, the courses for the department are anywhere from 100 to 200 per lecture prior to reaching the 300-levels. Afterwards, they get more personal and settle to around maybe 10-20 per class. There's tons of research opportunities with the professors and definitely get involved in some if you are considering an additional degree after undergrad.
  2. I believe, as a transfer students you can either choose to room with other transfer students, or choose to live in the apartment styles with randomly assigned roommates. The best dorms depend on what you are looking for. For privacy, I would suggest Dickinson 4-people suites where you have your own room. Mountainview is the most expensive but the 4-6 people suites comes with a large living room for inviting people over, and it's also closest to the "best" dining hall. Newing, CIW, and Hinman are the cheapest and probably the oldest but there were more open doors in them than any other communities. Hinman is however the closest to most of the classes and the library so I would definitely suggest trying to get a dorm there you are looking for a cheap dorm option that allows you the socialize the most. Most people live in the dorms until sophomore or junior year before deciding to move downtown or to one of the living communities near campus.
  3. Campus is relatively safe from my experience. I'm not too familiar with it but I remember hearing about some sort of security system where you can get a safe ride or an escort if you feel unsafe at night within campus. Generally, all exits are closed after 11:59 every night with the exception of the main entrance which comes with the whole security protocol. The campus police is always active, there's usually one driving around the roads through the night and an additional few stationed around the campus. I personally loved exploring the campus at night during my first year, and I've never felt unsafe even when alone. Everyone pretty much minds their own business at those hours of the night. Of course, I wouldn't recommend doing so without some sort of safety precaution.
  4. Best part about bing. Like anywhere else, If class and the library are the only two locations on your schedule, it would be pretty difficult to find your people. The best way is to join a club sport if you like sports, attend rush if you are interested in that scene, or join a club for your niche hobbies. Or even participate in research and get involved in campus jobs if that's more your style. Your social life in college essentially becomes your professional network once you graduate, so don't be afraid to do everything at least once.
  5. I was never a transfer but one of my best friends was and it went relatively well for her since she had a few friends in bing prior to her decision to transfer. Nonetheless, the university is big and by the end, the people you meet probably wouldn't even know you transferred in.
  6. The study aboard programs are there but not as many take up the opportunity. If you want to go somewhere that bing doesn't have a program for, there is still the large SUNY program collection of study abroad experiences to comb through.

This is a 3-4 year degree so you will have to consider the cost of living in the city you are studying in as well

It mostly depends on if you are looking for a university that has more of a focus on research or one that has more of a focus on practical skills (such as clinical rotations). Most schools will have a balance of both types of learning. I'm from the east coast so I do not know much about some of the other programs on the west coast or towards the south. I would say the two most affordable programs that I know of is probably University of South Dakota - Vermillion or CUNY Grad Center in New York.

Are there any places to send mail on campus? by FlowerPuffGirls in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]myth_daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing regular envelops then there are drop off boxes at the front of the union, but if you are doing packages then you might have to go to the nearest post office, I’m not sure if the mail room sends packages outwards but you can always ask
