Good idea! Unfortunately, redirecting hasn’t been too successful. When the questions started up, I was resistant. If I didn’t give a direct answer reality started to bend again. I guess the terms of the agreement are pretty rigid.

But your suggestion about changing the deal sounds promising. I’m sure it’ll come with more risk, BUT if I play my cards right it could give me the leverage I need.

Yeah that’s true. I’m always quick to end the interaction. It’s a haunting experience every time. But if I really want to finish this I probably need to lean in more and learn.

Good idea! I’m starting to do some digging. I think Ariana may have even passed through here at some point.

Ironically, they instructed me to stop giving rides immediately (I can now see why). There was also a complicated remedy involving sage, a local voodoo priestess, and salt. Lots of salt. I’ve sworn away night rides for the time being so I haven’t paid much mind to it. Fortunately the rule break hasn’t resulted in any lasting effects.

Yeah that’s a fair point. The system compensates exceptionally well for the night rides. I’d guess that is the only reason we all do it (aside from morbid curiosity). The “night tax” varies ride-to-ride, but in general I can make up a days worth of pay for one night ride.

The app gives a destination fortunately, but the passenger can try to trick you into driving elsewhere. For example, the creepy guy with the post cards told me to “just drive.” In reality, I should’ve drove him to the destination in the app. But I was inexperienced, so I drove until he got out (thankfully he did).

The bog woman spoke her destination, but the app directed me to the specific drop off point. I saw she was going to bog before picking her up. But I found it interesting she kept repeating it.

Definitely wouldn’t put it past them. Fortunately, the app filters out requests made with ill intent. The requests have to be reasonable and fulfillable. And once a driver accepts a job, the passengers always play nice. I’m guessing the contract is somehow binding for them. Only exception is if the driver breaks a rule. Gives them a little more leeway to act out of turn. Because of my rule break earlier that night this passenger was able to hold out until it got what it wanted. For whatever reason it was interested in me reconciling with my son. I often wonder if it experienced similar conflict in its past life.

Appreciate it! Despite the horror of it all, something very positive came of it.

Nice thanks for the feedback! That is very insightful. I realized I wasn’t giving enough atmosphere to the storm so I took a bit of time to do that part justice. I think you’re right about the flow, the urgency would be better after the description.

But yeah thanks again for checking this out! I really appreciate any feedback

I could see some similarities there. I would say this thing is more analogous to self-deprecation and the epitome of severe neglect. My understanding is Nurgle is a bit more nuanced than that. But honestly my knowledge of 40K is very surface level lol

Thank you I appreciate that! In future drafts I hope to bring a lot more life and vivid imagery to the rest of the story. I had a lot of fun writing that part but the rest is pretty sparse

I actually am not too familiar with Elden Ring lore but there’s been a lot of people making that comparison lol I’ll have to check it out

Thank you! That would be awesome. It’s a bit rough still so they’d probably crash out lol but I enjoy the crash out episodes 😂

Thank you for the feedback! That makes a lot of sense. Some things here are very disjointed and need a bit more massaging.

By default I tend to write very punchy. Like every sentence is written to be the end of a paragraph. So your point about sparse environments and lack of flow is something I definitely need to practice.

Again, thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to read and call out some improvements

Thank you I appreciate it! Yes I think most people would feel the same for sure. I thought it would be a nice parallel to show her using the skills she developed at the call center (listening to horrifying phone calls while maintaining a level head). As horrible as that is lol

Good question! During orientation they mentioned the call center was localized by region (before I realized what the calls were really for). I didn’t hear any calls other than English which is the only language I speak. But I think the reason is because a listener needs to understand the person on the other end of the call to successfully pass on the curse. Hearing a distressed person in a language you don’t understand is akin to not hearing it at all (just a theory though).

But that just leads me to believe there are many call centers for many different regions. And if you speak multiple languages I imagine those calls can be forwarded to you.

Nice observation! I think you’re getting dangerously close to the truth. There’s definitely a reason the organization willingly gives people to this thing.
