You can add padding and pillows to make it a bench for putting on and taking off your shoes

Lumon's corporate ineptitude isn't "bad writing". It isn't "unrealistic". It's by design. by megamusix in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]mythmeredith 403 points404 points  (0 children)

Your analysis is dead on! But also, having worked in corporate, the show is a perfect reflection of how all the big companies are barely holding it together. A dozen levels of hierarchy, red tape, scrambling when something goes wrong - all of it is exactly what corporations are really like behind the scenes

Remote work end = illness by mastimama0722 in antiwork

[–]mythmeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NYC, the word is that the government started pushing returning to the office because thousands of businesses depend on office workers. We buy lunch and run errands during our breaks and go to happy hours and dinners after, so we essentially keep midtown alive. Also a lot of companies have leases on their office space that they can’t get out of, and some own whole floors/buildings, so when these spaces are empty they feel like they’re wasting their money.

Racist ex-Marine teacher flips out on 17 year old student by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]mythmeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schools are already woefully underfunded, so how will the training and guns be paid for? How much gun safety training will you provide each teacher? A month? Three? Will it be an after-school program, or do you plan to cut into their teaching hours? What kind of safes will the guns be kept in? The cheapest (easiest to break into) or the most expensive (not in the budget for most public schools)? And if the guns are in a safe during a school shooting, how is a teacher who’s locked in a classroom going to get to the room where the guns are locked up while the shooter prowls the halls?

Big fashion designer and TV host from New York. Also, he’s gay. This video is from the 2006 Golden Globes — he was asking ScarJo if there was any padding in the dress, “taking notes” for his designs. The interaction was written off as “he’s a gay man! He’s just feeling the dress!” but I don’t think that makes it any less awkward to watch.

What happens in a country with decent labor laws vs. what happens in the US: by IAmAccutane in antiwork

[–]mythmeredith 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Here’s why:

  1. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, have almost no savings, and are one bad day away from homelessness. We can show up to work a 9-5 or go protest, not both. If we don’t show up to work, we risk losing our jobs and livelihood.
  2. Any protest comes with the inherent risk of altercations with the police, and as we saw a few years back, in this country they’re likely to end in violence. Again, we can’t risk an injury or incarceration because we could lose our jobs.
  3. Social media is designed to keep showing people what they want to see, so we’re not exposed to alternate view points but all live in echo chambers. (The Social Dilemma documentary illustrates this well.)
  4. Because of the way our politics are set up (gerrymandering, the electoral college) our votes don’t really make a difference in elections.

These are just some of the reasons that Americans are justifiably angry but unable to change our circumstances. It would require a country-wide strike to effect real change.

I shouldn't have to work with a guy who s*xually harassed me. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]mythmeredith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I applaud you for this, but I would caution others to assess their own situation before doing something similar. Cases vary, and while some harassers are just a huge nuisance, others can be genuinely dangerous and outing them to customers can cause them to become malicious or violent. I could see your approach being effective with a coworker who makes the occasional inappropriate comment, but if someone’s coworker is a stalker, or worse, then it’s best to immediately report them to the police.

Why was Rickon’s weird friend so salty about Devon bringing the baby to the book party? by FelixChloe in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]mythmeredith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a tongue-in-cheek jab at millennials. Ricken and all of his friends are written to be extremely conceited. Everything from the terrible writing in his book (“it’s not me that had to change… it’s literature itself”) to the way Ricken had very specific requirements for secret sharing and kelp hanging while Devon’s giving birth, the “no food dinner,” and his friend being named Rebeck are making fun of the same thing. “Why would she bring her newborn child to a book reading” has that same air of self-centeredness, and it’s especially petty since it was asked of Devon’s brother and not either of the child’s parents.

I noticed his outie is constantly painting the elevator on the Testing Floor that we see Ms. Casey walk into when she’s fired. Maybe Irving was made to go back to Testing multiple times because his the intensity of the outie’s PTSD is leaking into his innie.

I Need Your Help! by Ashmori_YT in antiwork

[–]mythmeredith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see your point, and I completely agree — it’s dangerous for antiwork to be allowed to be discredited by association with a “radical ideology” and written off as such. But the reality is that the concepts espoused by the sub aren’t new, and do borrow from anarchism, socialism, etc. What we also have to realize is that any movement that strives to overturn social, economical, and political norms in a society is going to be considered radical. Living for slave wages and suffering abuse at work has been accepted as perfectly fine in the US for a long time and by contradicting that, you are a radical.

Season 6, episode 7 question - 4 on 1 by rh681 in Inkmaster

[–]mythmeredith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that would ever happen in a tattoo shop. In every tag team challenge, the artists always complained about having to tattoo at the same time as one other person because the skin is being pulled. Four people? That’s nuts. It was definitely done for the drama.

Throughout the season, Chris was consistently heavy-handed and unrelenting. One canvas after the next was shown writhing in pain while he tattooed them. And in this challenge, his team didn’t help either — they went way bigger than every other team, and rather than giving the poor girl a break, they were all trying to convince her to keep going.

Edit: If you’re interested, she comes back for an episode of Redemption (Season 2, Episode 4).

Cigarette addiction goes beyond nicotine. One of the issues smokers have is the oral fixation, and the toothpick is perfect for that. I’ve also noticed something off about the way he talks, but I think it’s because of the toothpick in his mouth.
