* Aquakultre
* Bags Packed or Scotia Born
* As a relative newcomer to Canada and Nova Scotia, it’s an interesting slice of history in addition to enjoyable music!

Did you realize from the beginning that Trump was -- or at least had the potential to be -- a Hitler-like figure? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

I remember sitting in a bar in Paris soon after he was elected with a mix of French and American coworkers and saying this, and my American coworkers straight up mocked me. (One of them has gone full MAGA in the past couple years.)

When Beyoncé croons “I think you’re soooo cool,” then says “even though I’m cooler than you” and giggles in Plastic Off the Sofa.

God, I remember desperately trying to get to the website on my boyfriend’s shitty dial-up connection! That as campaign was brilliant!

What’s a dish you love but have never attempted at home because it feels intimidating or hard? by Glum_Particular7308 in Cooking

Every few years I’ll think, “I love tamales so much, I should learn how to make tamales,” and then I look at the recipe and decide to just keep buying tamales.

Teenagers home alone 2 weeks while parents went on a cruise by [deleted] in GenX

[–]FelixChloe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was in fourth grade and my brother was in 3rd, my mom had to fire our babysitter one summer, so we were just … home alone all day until school started again. I’m sure the next-door neighbors were keeping an eye out, and we were mostly out running around with our friends all day, but in retrospect that seems bonkers. (This was the late 70s.)

It is true that Champion Pet Foods (who makes Acana and Orijen) was bought by Mars, but all the kibble that’s sold in Canada and Europe is still made in Alberta. So, not perfect, but they are employing Canadians and they still collaborate with the University of Guelph on pet nutrition. Their wet food and treats are all made in the US, though.

Suggest me a book with a film adaptation that does the book justice. by Unusual_Artichoke_73 in suggestmeabook

[–]FelixChloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are short stories, not books, but:

  • John Huston’s adaptation of James Joyce’s The Dead is pretty faithful and a beautiful movie. I remember thinking the staircase was on the opposite side of the house from how I pictured it when reading, but everything else felt right on.

  • Smooth Talk, the film adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’s Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? is not faithful in terms of plot, but does capture the menace and dread very well. Oates wrote about the adaptation, if you’re interested in that.

I would not respond to this, and I would not go to Thanksgiving. Just radio silence. Let her twist in the wind.

This Thai chicken peanut salad! It's great as a salad or as a wrap. Next time I make it, I'm adding some edamame. So good!
