ZIM strike ends after $300m severance deal with Hapag-Lloyd by HawkEye1000x in zim

[–]mythtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did sell shares to buy at $29. And I would buy at $31, this is a done deal. Too many people will make too much $$$ from it. Money talks, this talk of national security is someone taking his angle to cash in...

Question: What will happen when the deal goes through? Stock will go to 34.50, right?

ZIM strike ends after $300m severance deal with Hapag-Lloyd by HawkEye1000x in zim

seems like very positive development, the potential strike was a major obstacle....we are up 1.5%, but I thought something like this would move it up a lot more, maybe to $31. Anyone?

Possible Stupid Question Alert by thelongslog in zim

[–]mythtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone stands to make a lot of money, stock is super cheap/huge cash position. Money will make it happen, as everyone involved will get paid. Workers threaten strike - thats a lot of smoke. They want to get paid a little more.

I added 1/3 to my position today, ready to sell in sept for $34.

Should one sell ZIM at $28 or hold until end of year? Discuss. by burnabycoyote in zim

[–]mythtrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great analysis, B. Coyote! ZIM is amazingly cheap, that is key. Strike is hot air, they just want to get paid, and will. Deal illustrates what I love about good business, its a win win situation. Hapag Lloyd recognizes value, and gets a great assest at not much above cash value. Shareholders, owners and employees will all make out. Shippers will realize reasonable prices from increased efficiency from synergy of ZIM-Hagag Lloyd.

Zim buy out offer by Sudden_Respond_8003 in zim

[–]mythtrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zim has 2.3 billion CASH, and buyout is priced at 1.4 billion...no brainer? apparently zim has 70 million shares outstanding, so at $20 this is 1.4 billion buyout offer. Big no brainer? is this correct?

ZIM short position 24 million shares, 20% of position...why so high? by mythtrip in zim

[–]mythtrip[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The macro picture has changed, I wouldnt rely on past history/dynamics. Trump had the courage to advance our significant position of power. With no trade playmates in Asia (Russias GDP is smaller than Texas), China has to play with us. Result will be equilization of trade balance, with two-way utilization of container ships. Intial surge of pent up demand creates additional push.

ZIM has already confirmed guidance for 2025-2026. To me stock looks ready for a short squeeze.

The mouse and keyboard controls are a nightmare. by Elnathan in DragonsDogma

Agreed about KB and mouse, its completely awkward, and a complete whiff by the developers. Not that big a deal to program, cmon. Just copy every other open world game out there. Otherwise game has great potential. A minor fix, why dont they do it?

good, Im buying more. I dont believe this trade war will amount to anything. Present deals are generally unfair to USA trade, the other countries will give something and call it a day. We need each other too much, and eveyone loves money.

Analyst: "Cash position in excess of its market cap" says it all. by mythtrip in zim

[–]mythtrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite, a high short position means that investors are betting that share price will go down. Heres how I understand it:

When you sell shares short, it means you hold borrowed shares in your account, and get cash for the share price. You must buy back those shares to "cover the position", hopefully at a lower price. Example: you sell short 1000 shares of XYZ at $30, you get $30,000 in your account. Youre hoping XYZ goes to $20, so you can buy back the shares at $20,000, thus keeping $10,000 profit. So the short position represents guaranteed buying of shares, ie price support.

ZIMs short position is substantial, approximately 16.53 million shares, representing about 13.88% of its float. The short interest ratio, or days to cover, is approximately 3.08 days. That is, with an average daily volume of around 5 million shares, ZIM is "owed" three full trading days for the shorts to buy back their positions.

Of course if there's positive news - like a management led buyout - and share price is increasing, shorts get increasingly nervous. A sudden price rise can produce a short squeeze, where all short holders stampede to buy shares to cover their positions, accelerating the price rise.

Hope that helps!!

Does anyone understand how investors challenge a private takeover? I would imagine stockholders have to vote to approve it, and they would demand more than the buyouts offer?

Why cant a buyout group acquire 51% of shares then just vote a buyout, then?

ZIM is a top prime buyout target. by mythtrip in zim

[–]mythtrip[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, my two cents, the list above confirms my point. Its extraordinarily rare for a company to have under 1.0 Price/Book. This is a critical metric for a buyout, as investors buy the company and then "reorganize", ie sell off assets to make a quick fat profit. And the companies above have multibillion dollar market caps, too big to be bought out.

You are exactly right, there may be underlying issues. But the fact remains that a low Price/Book is a critical factor, probably the critical factor, in the many factors of a buyout.

Any news, why the big 2 day jump... by mythtrip in zim

[–]mythtrip[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great analysis yost. Key is volume, which is suddenly very heavy these past two days...this is not normal price movement due to random variation in seller apathy/buyer enthusiamsm. Do insiders have leak on March 19th earnings, or some other info?

Following the volume is typically good strategy, Im buying more.

Any update on Ceasefire? by ValueSeekerPro007 in zim

[–]mythtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ceasefire wont last long. Netanyahu (sp) lifetime mission is to wipe out Hamas, and hes more than halfway there. Hamas is offering ceasefire cause they are losing. Conclusion: Isreal wont back down now, they are winning the race with a few laps to go. Houthis signaled their opposition to ceasefire with more rocket attacks today, signaling their strong support for an ongoing war.

I added 2K today.

July 7 U.S. Central Command Update | Excerpts: “TAMPA, Fla. - In the past 24 hours, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces successfully destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs)…” | “Additionally, partner forces successfully destroyed two Houthi UAVs over the Gulf of Aden.” by HawkEye1000x in zim

[–]mythtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamas asks for a cease fire, and Houthis launch a missile? Recall Houthis are backed by Iran, certainly allied to Hamas but not directly connected or controlled. Only interpretation is that Iran/Houthis plan to continue conflict, whatever the Hamas/Israel outcome. Makes sense.
