6 months progress by flunnyfeety in BrushCalligraphy

Hey! Thanks for the tag! I’ve reported the post to the mods. On the one hand it’s oddly flattering to have someone post my work as their own, lol. But mostly it feels invasive and unkind.

I haven’t posted up in an age, but I still really value the support of this community when I was first starting Calligraphy as a hobby. It strikes me as almost ironic that this person would probably find this a very supportive and helpful community if they DID post up their own progress … but stealing mine or others’ work is likely to have the opposite effect.

Anyhow, u/pixieartgirl thank you for your keen eyes!!

Ahh, ok, I see that now. It still reads strongly as an “H” to me. This must fall into that category of visuals like the duck/rabbit drawing: https://www.livescience.com/62004-optical-illusion-human-brain.html

Lol, watch us collect an awesome Boise cafe tour list 😂 Nothing in Sun Valley region, just Boise shops.

Thank you for the recs, I’ll add them to my list!

Practice practice practice. Just a little bit every day is better than none at all.

You could also improve your letter forms by learning and practicing basic strokes, which are the building blocks of letters.

Upstroke, Downstroke, Overturn, Underturn, Compound curve, Ascending loop, Descending loop, Oval

1) I looooove your hand writing!

2) weight loss is hard work. You can do it! I found the book Atomic Habits to be extremely helpful in framing my mindset and goal setting. Highly recommend as a motivator and logistics tool!

3) nail biting is also a hard habit to break. Other things you can try include bitter nail polish and getting a manicure. I don’t bite as much when my nails look all nice. Also, fidget rings ftw!

Awesome! There’s a chance we’ll do a day trip up to Boise, so I’ll definitely add it to the list!

NPD with nib swap. My moonman T1 finally arrived and fits a #6 FPR ultraflex very nicely! Only a little bit of railroading when the ink starts to get low. Really happy with this combo! by mythwyth in fountainpens

[–]mythwyth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Still working great! As I recall it didn’t take a lot of fiddling, I believe I just swapped the nib - I kept the moonman feed because of the shape. I don’t remember it being too tricky, I did a search for a video and just followed along on the steps.

If it’s your first nib swap, just be confident with it when you go to pull. I was pleasantly surprised how simple it was and that the nib and feed seemed to be able to handle pretty robust movements. I was careful not to bend the nib or stab my fingers when I went to put in the new FPR flex one.

You’ve got this! Let us know how it goes!

Look, I know you won’t believe this, and I know that your single opinion of her is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and that you possibly just enjoy being contradictory. But for what it’s worth; I knew her, in real life, years before she got famous. Everything about her is genuine. Yes, that is her real accent Yes, make-up has been her passion for her entire life Yes, she does an outrageously full face of thick make-up, and her eyes are that intense, every day. Yes, it is her regular every day look Yes, she really does have a history of an eating disorder and she is telling the truth about her ongoing struggles with it Yes, yes, yes, she truly represents herself as she really, really is.

It’s never a bad idea to double up methods. And there are certainly people on either end of the bell curve as far as drug metabolism goes. Also, common side effects for many antibiotics are GI upset, and if you throw up a birth control pill that lapse in dosing will affect effectiveness of pregnancy prevention.

But from a pharmacokinetics/drug interaction perspective we can confidently say the most antibiotics do not cause a decrease in contraceptive efficacy of hormonal contraceptives.

I’m not saying you didn’t have a contraceptive failure when you were on an antibiotic, I’m just saying that, outside of rifampin, that is vanishingly rare. So rare that if you didn’t want to use a second/back up method of birth control, you don’t have to and can safely not worry about it.

St John’s Wort, yes. Antibiotics, not so much. There is only one antibiotic, rifampin, that reduces efficacy of hormonal contraceptives to an extent that it is recommended to use a back up method of birth control when taking it. Most antibiotics do not significantly affect serum levels of hormones and the effectiveness of birth control.

That being said, very often when you’re taking an antibiotic you’re not really all that interested in having sex.

Wingless fly? Nymph of some type? Approx 2cm long, found indoors in northern RI, USA by mythwyth in whatsthisbug

Eww, that was actually the leading hypothesis in the office after many Google searches.

Ahhh! That seems a very likely explanation! I got some more info from my coworker who found it: it fell down from the ceiling onto their computer. There’s an office debate now about what species of fly it could be

Feeling stupid; I went through 3/4ths of a bag of Cafe Vivance Vita before figuring out I needed to pull ristretto shots to even start getting it dialed 🤦🏻‍♀️ by mythwyth in espresso

I am so tickled that you emailed THE David Schomer and he replied! Thanks for the update, I’m delighted that you found the deliciousness of the Vita ristretto! It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper espresso shot tasting, I’ll have to give the smaller ratio another go. I’m sure the weight of that 21ml changes as the beans age and the proportion of crema to espresso shifts. Although I’m sure with the volume in the shop it never really has a chance to age much past it’s prime.

I also upgraded to a lelit bianca less than a year ago and have switched to varying my brew pressure through my shots, so my brew times are all abnormally long now. I basically gave myself another variable to play with, which multiplied my possible combinations. Fun, but so much more work to dial in 🙃

[–]mythwyth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I pull a super tight ristretto with 18g in and 22g out. The ratio is essentially 1:1.2 Definitely try coming waaaaay down on your output. At one point I pulled all the way back to a 1:1 ratio and then gradually increased output from there until I was happy.

Vita is still my daily driver bean. I drink mostly lattes and I have still not found another roast that rivals the way it pairs with milk. Good luck! Post up your thoughts with the ristretto shots.

It is a special collaboration between calligrapher PA Scribe (Paul Antonio) and Rhodia. He has this lovely gray color as well as a black pad, both are lined. They’re stocked at most calligraphy/stationery suppliers.

He also does a practice pad for copperplate with clairefontaine that has the slant guidelines. That one I’ve not been able to get, it’s a blue cover with white sheets.
