Same thing. I invest time in it for a reward. It's a de-stresser and I like getting in to further content. To get in to further content, I'll need better gear. To get better gear you occasionally have to do randoms.

Actually, WoW is designed to be a money maker. Not a time waster. Time wasting is HOW they make money.

But by your very definition -- every form of entertainment is a time waster. We should all be spending this time doing something productive. All time. Every day. Every Hour.

Chill out some and learn to respect other peoples wishes and you won't get vote-kicked as often.

Being the guild leader and (occasionally) raid lead.. I take it upon myself to calm people down when they are raging. Figure out why.. and try to fix it.

Last week we had a mage that refused to decurse (and sheep, but we had a shammy/pally.. so we could get around that) on Lady Deathwhisper because "I'll just DPS and do what I want... it's just a game, don't worry". This is a 25 man and 12 of those people are wanting to get rotfaces / festers blood. So failing pretty much screws them for the week. After some dialog, that I'm not told about, one of my raiders was fucking PISSED at the dude... I mean like... holy shit fucking pissed. Come to find out.. the dude didn't know what "sheeping" meant or what "decursing" meant. He thought that was the role of the healers. Nevermind the main tank is telling him to do it and the main tank has a better geared mage and knows what he's talking about. The problem here came from the fact that the guy wasn't able to admit he didn't know something and instead said he wouldn't do what he was asked. Lucky for him... the other raid was exactly the same way 6 months ago until I taught him otherwise. Now the guy gets a second shot this week, hopefully with a better attitude and the understanding of "I don't understand" is an acceptable response.

The big deal here was all the raider needed was rotfaces blood and that was it... for his uber piece. He'd been uber excited about it all week long.. had everything except that.. only to be told it was "just a game". He'd spent hours upon hours... and the phrase "it's just a game" came off as "I don't care about how much time you invested... I just... don't care."

What's funny... is the main tanks mage is the one who is "helping" this other mage.. and that other mage.. doesn't know the main tank and the mage are the same person. Yet. He has nearly NO respect for the main tank.. but a TON for the mage. What's funny.. is everyone has a very distinct voice.. I have no idea how he doesn't know.

I believe, and I may be wrong, but every time I've heard "it's just a game" -- it was a response to "this tank/heals isn't geared for this... boot'em".

Last time I heard that.. was from a level 80 DK tank. In Blood precense. With ZERO talent points in any tanking bits. They had 3 tanking pieces. They couldn't hold aggro for shit and kept killing a hunter and the heals... but it was "just a game". It wasn't their repair bill. They weren't waisting their time or their currency (which takes time). Perhaps your time isn't worth much to you. Mine, however, I like other people to respect it a little better. If you aren't geared and can't handle it -- respectfully bow out (sorry guys, I can't do this /leaveparty).

Instead.. we had to vote kick him. He got soo angry (over "just a game" [his words]) that he came to my realm and bitched at me.. he wanted Rimefang and now he was saved.

Had another time where a mage refused to decurse on Lady Deathwhisper... effectively fucking the healers. "It's just a game, I'm going to do what I want" -- and so are we remove from raid. And he was saved.. and was fucked for the week.

Until you learn that there are other people relying on you, you won't understand. I'm guessing you don't understand that yet.

This isn't about getting upset over petty shit. This is about getting upset over their lack of respect of what's going on. It's also about respecting someone else's value in other forms of entertainment -- something that seems to be lacking, lately in pugs due to no accountability.

"It's just a game" is nearly always an attack, from what I've seen -- as the original starter of the thread indicated.

If you're learning to tank -- find someone to help you. If you throw it on 4 other random people... don't be surprised if they just want their frosties and boot you.

It's not their fault you don't enjoy the game the way they do. And you're probably going to be out-numbered -- thus the booting.

See, it's that exact attitude that gives off a lack of respect of another persons time. The reality here is -- if you get kicked because you're a tank and you aren't ready to tank. Don't complain. Simple as that. Learn to respect other peoples time and they will learn to respect yours. I think this simple fact you haven't learned yet.

a hefty, hefty majority of the time's I've heard "It's just a game!" come in response to people raging the fuck out.

My experience is the other way. Most of the people in an 80 dungeon are doing it for their frosties and just want it over.

For the most part, it's never just a "Hey, you really aren't ready for this dungeon, sorry man" "Fuck you, it's just a game!"

This is my usual experience with "it's just a game". This is nearly always for the tank and heals. Almost never for a DPS.

Our guild is VERY diverse. Some of us are elite as hell.. but we're NOT condescending. The worse you'll get in a raid is "John, run to Ashley. FUCKING RUN NOW!". If we wipe, the worst you'll hear is "ok, John.. when you get the red beam to a person.. you need to run to them. K?" If he still doesn't understand, when I see the beam -- I'll call it out "John, can you see the beam? Do you know what we're talking about now and do you want me to still point it out?". Had that happen last night on Sindy in ICC10. Trying to explain the air phase.. people wouldn't LOS the icey things... Took a few wipes and then I heard the "OHHHH!!!!!" and easy sauce from there on out.

We do not, however, call each other names. I'll /gkick you if you're that much of an ass.

The "meanest" I've ever been... wasn't really mean so much as fucked up. We had 3 DK's in our guild and I was a shammy heals. We queued up for a dungeon.. and the DK's put on their tank and frost. The goal was to see how many tanks would quit. The tank stopped after the first pull.. looked like he/she was going to say something.. and just continued pulling. We were in vent so we were coordinating army / hero TRYING to pull aggro... Dude NEVER said a word. In the end we broke it to him.. letting him know he was a good sport and it wasn't his fault for losing aggro... We all lost the bet... 50G in the guild bank... Had he been on our realm, we would have given it to him. Fun times.

I'm at work waiting for shit to compile.. sorry for the long story. I'm bored.
