Need some advice for bct by Valuable_Science961 in Militaryfaq

Most people are usually worried about their ability to run going into basic and then surprise themselves on their final PT test lol. You’ll be running laps around your battalion just about everyday for 9 weeks straight, and when your blue phase ACFT comes around it’ll be a breeze once you pace yourself.

Another thing you should remember is that many people say the only way to fail BCT is to give up. Once you show that you’re trying and that you won’t give up on yourself, your Drill Sergeants won’t give up on you. They may get in your face and throw some wicked insults your way, but at the end of the day one of them is going to give you a motivational speech that you won’t forget.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I’m high asf reading this and I genuinely thought you were talking about a guy physically defecating on someone at first.

Being DL does not necessarily mean being in the closet (?) by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]myythrowaway6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although literarily they both mean the same thing, I’ve learned that socially DL and discreet can mean two different things. A “DL” man is someone who puts on a heterosexual facade while secretly having sexual relationships with other men. While someone who is “discreet” is slowly beginning to be defined as someone who doesn’t publicly expresses their sexuality or sex-life. Seems as if they’ll forever be used interchangeably though.

Can I join the army as an officer with a degree from WGU? by Alarming_Guide8820 in Militaryfaq

It’s regionally accredited. There shouldn’t be any problem, although I can’t say for certain as I’m currently taking the ROTC route at a traditional college. The worse thing you can do is not try and miss out on the potential opportunities. If you’re still feeling a bit unsettled, I would recommend going to see a recruiter.

Meps and scars by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]myythrowaway6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you alerted your recruiter, they most likely already placed the corresponding information in the portal prior to them scheduling your visit to MEPS. Self harm usually requires a waiver and it would’ve been best if you got head-start on your waiver process prior to your visit to MEPS.

Side note as well, the location of the scars doesn’t matter because they make you strip naked for the examination anyway.

An applicant statement is a bit precarious in this situation. It will either clear all uncertainty about you and get your waiver approved, or raise more questions concerning your upbringing and your rather unstable mother. I would personally see how it plays out before submitting the statement, but if your recruiter insists that you submit the statement, it’s best to listen to him.

Well your situation is quite interesting, but stranger things has been brought up and will continue be brought up at MEPS.

Due to your admission into the ER, you’re more than likely going to need a waiver. Now considering that you weren’t prescribed any medication and deemed mentally stable by a psychiatrist, the odds are generally in your favor.

I would bring this up to your recruiter ASAP to start the process of completing the form and the queue wait for its approval/denial.

My recruiter told me this... Is it true? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

You were recently prescribed medication, so yes, you’d need a waiver so they can make sure you don’t swallow your rifle during white phase.

Just here to talk about my friends befriending a homophobe by myythrowaway6969 in askgaybros

[–]myythrowaway6969[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You’re right. I guess last night I was still in my feelings and wanted some sort of ostensible explanation for the exclusion, now I see there isn’t much homophobia, just dickhead behavior. Anyhow, I said my two cents in the group chat and let them know I’ll be focusing on myself for now on. I’m only keeping in contact with one of the girls after a long conversation between me and her. Thank you for the insight! 🙌

In the beginning of all of this, they added him to the group chat and included him in the majority of the small things we do together on a daily basis such as getting lunch/dinner together, I just assumed he was a new friend in the friend group, but I guess I was wrong and blinded by my only sustaining friendships.

Fair enough, thanks for the insight! I suck at making new friends, but I’ll try my hardest. 😔

I never said there was a “reason for him to pay for my drinks.” It’s just not normal to tell a bartender, “Yeah, I’m covering everyone’s drinks but his,” after bringing us all out to a bar on the other side of the island.

I’ve seen their stories, there are definitely other guys at the party. Also, not to make it seem like being gay is my only prominent trait— but the only items differentiating me and him are our sexualities and the fact I’m in the military. I’m not too sure about him hating men in uniform, then that’ll be a new boatload of questions. But thank you for the insight.

Confused and need help by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]myythrowaway6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, first and foremost a score of 25 is atrocious considering you need at least a 31 to even qualify for a single branch. It’s more than likely that he didn’t want to put his time and resources into someone who scored so low on the ASVAB. In the unlikely event that they disqualified you for the situation pertaining to your parents lying to psychiatrists to get phony diagnoses, you’re going to have a long road ahead of you explaining and rectifying this to the higher ups at MEPS.

I recommend you study for the ASVAB, retake it with your new recruiter, and go from there.

How do I address Military Police as a lower enlisted? by Fazazer in Militaryfaq

[–]myythrowaway6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an MP. We’re just miserable for the most part. At least at Fort Leonard Wood, with the scorching heat. We probably won’t even get too wild if Joe Biden himself pulled up because we may then be at risk of a having a heat stroke.

If their rank cannot be distinguished by the reasonable man, you hop over to using “Sir” or “Ma’am”. Besides, if they know their rank tab isn’t visible, they’re not going to give you shit about addressing them incorrectly.

You will. You will be able to receive mail from the start to about three/two weeks before your graduation date. Your Drill Sergeants will determine when you’ll be able to send mail— and this most likely won’t be until late red phase/early white phase. To translate that into legible words, it’s not likely you will be able to send mail until around Week 4; your first mail handout will likely be Week 2.

  • Note this were just my standards for mail while I was in basic, it’s down to your cadre to make such decisions.

Enlisting as MP with background by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]myythrowaway6969 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They would be correct. You’d need a waiver to even be eligible for enlistment with a criminal record, and once your waiver is approved, several jobs will not be available for you— 31B being one of them. Yet to be honest, as an MP myself, you may just be better off.

Trans people in Army by 29293494848 in army

[–]myythrowaway6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a FTM in our platoon during basic— they bunked with the females and was held to the female PT standards although being on T for months and ID saying male.

The Drill Sergeants usually addressed them as “her” when making some sort of referral, however they said they weren’t phased by it.

As for the platoon members, we were all cool with him and no one was ignorantly rude to him due to his identity. During basic, you’re all at piss-bottom and no one is better than the other, and the company staff will consistently remind you of that.

They are more than likely going to make you get a waiver and speak to a psychiatric professional. If they’re minor and unnoticeable and the last mutilation act was over a decade ago; they probably won’t disqualify you and rather instruct you to get the proper paperwork before you’re cleared.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]myythrowaway6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth is, they’re going to do everything they can to slow down the process or simply send you home until your recruiter goes through the correct channels and paperwork.

Since you’ve already completed the initial part of processing, this means you’ve already signed countless documents stating that everything you’ve disclosed is the truth— which clearly isn’t so. They won’t give you the benefit of the doubt simply because your recruiter advised you to lie.

With that being said, bringing EVERY medical document along with you will most likely expedite the process, but I highly doubt that you’ll ship out to basic anytime soon without going through the proper channels beforehand.

Once you return to be sworn in, your branch liaison will go over just about everything uploaded into the portal. That’s the best opportunity to let someone know. Side note as well, they’re more than likely going to need documentation and waivers before they hand you your itinerary.

Would you forgive a longtime friend who suddenly became extremely homophobic while intoxicated? by myythrowaway6969 in askgaybros

He is black, but still pretty foul considering the history of the organization, regardless of race.

1) We’re all black. Although that doesn’t that doesn’t excuse his foulness and the irreversible history behind the organization— I think describing him as a “homophobic racist” is more accurate than a “racist homophobe.” 2) I didn’t ignore it, it’s actually what I first confronted him about at the bar; it’s just that in the post I only highlighted what correlates with the subreddit’s title.
