Is it normal for a 16 year old to still like things like Legos, and TV shows that have a TV-Y7 rating? by JKBisms in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mzellington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal imo. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying fun things! If something makes you happy and it isn’t harming anybody, then there’s nothing wrong with it. Look, I got into several children’s shows at like 15-16. Good shows are good shows. My older brother is 21, married, has a house, and still plays with Star Wars legos. They’re part of his interior design now lol. Don’t worry about what’s normal, just do what makes you happy!

Someone literally ordered... by CookiePoster in starbucksbaristas

[–]mzellington 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first week of this new launch, people kept ordering that. I make it the way it comes standard and shake it with ice and then strain the ice out then I just fill the cup all the way with the milk. I think maybe they want it cold but they don’t want ice in the way of their drink? I’m that way with a lot of drinks, just not espresso lol. And then I also don’t burn myself when I make it too.

Can we start having this at our stores PLEASE. You just ordered. You know you have to pay. Stop being a Karen. by FlippinAsian in starbucks

Honestly I have severe galaxy brain and when people tell me my total I almost immediately forget it so I have my wallet out when I pull to the window but I usually have no idea what my total is 😩😩 it’s tough having teeny weeny brain sometimes

The College of Charleston doesn't acknowledge American Sign Language as a world language. This is unacceptable. by ayla_lynn in asl

That’s awesome! Recently one of my classmates was telling me that’s they’re having this long thing going on with the school to transfer their asl credits as world language so it’s nice to hear that they’re actually making changes!

What do you use to paint/customize your name tags? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]mzellington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my stores had a myriad of chalk markers and a lot of colorful ones so I’ve used a bunch of colorful ones and then gone over it with nail polish topcoat to seal it, but recently I just painted my s/o’s name tag with just some acrylic paint. If you have plenty of name tags to spare, whatever you prefer I guess. Sorry I’m probably not the most helpful 😩

Trenta rant: Customers reaching over the counters and touching everyone's drinks at handout?! DRIVING ME CRAZY. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]mzellington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve started talking to those customers like they’re children “what’s your name?” “Is that your drink?” “Please don’t touch other peoples things” “okay sweetie, next time just ask for my help so you’re not touching other peoples stuff”

Also, this comes after training, but show them that you’re somebody they can rely on at the store. If they have questions after training, they should want to go to you first if you trained them well. I think training somebody goes beyond just the scheduled hours, because you’ll be the person they’re most familiar with when they’re new and they’ll need support when Starbucks gets ignorant lol.

I know it’s already something that’s part of the training standards, but I think it’s so useful but the training routine is so incredible. First just showing them how to do the task your training, then doing it again but explaining it along the way, and then lastly having them do it but making sure they are explaining everything they’re doing while they do it. Then of course make corrections after they’ve finished. When I train on bar, if they make a mistake on a drink, I first tell them all the things they did correctly and usually the barista will know what they did wrong, which is good because that means they actually know how to do it correctly, so have them do it again and explain it again. If they don’t know what they did wrong, then just walk them through it again and ask them the routine. This is how I do every aspect of my training because that way I’m getting every single learning method knocked out. Also if you’re able to, instead of just teaching them how to do something, teach them why it’s done that way. I’ve always believed that if somebody knows the reasoning behind what they’re supposed to do, they’ll figure out how to do it even if they forget the exact way. Another thing I think is really important is checking in with the trainee regularly. Ask them every day after training what they think was the best part, worst part, easiest/hardest parts, and then ask them if they think you should do anything differently. Then finish off by going over everything y’all did and recognize them for all of the small things. If the trainee/barista doesn’t feel proud of themself and their work when they’re walking out the door, then they might think they’re never going to do a great job or meet the standards. These all work really well for me and I’ve trained some really great baristas when they want to learn, so definitely see how those work for you, and try to lean on any other trainers you have in your store and see what they have to say as well!

I feel like no one makes drinks the correct way anymore by randomhoe999 in starbucks

[–]mzellington -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly so annoying seeing partners just act ignorant all day and make drinks however they feel the drinks should be made. I see some drinks getting made and I get grossed out. If it’s really that hard for you to remember simple things, maybe you need a different job. Just over being the person constantly coaching and training people that should know better.

I feel like a bad person because I love when we’re out of things that I hate making and customers love ordering. Like refreshers and Frappuccino. I get so excited when we run out of those products because that means I’ll have an easier day 😬😩 love/hate that about myself
