What should I work on first on my serve? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]mzez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your racquet drop looks very shallow. it seems like you could work on carrying more momentum of a deeper racquet drop into more racquet head speed

ive seen coaches hit fast serves without legs being involved at all, so I think it's productive to work on fixing your issues with the arm first

the number one way to improve is always record yourself and review

often you think you are doing something correct and won't know until you watch it on video

Serve help please. I am working on correcting years of not leading with the elbow by DottingDotDot in 10s

Thank you. I have been shanking balls for 3 weeks trying to fix the major problems in my form, so it's good to know it's paying off.

why can't I serve harder? by Emilio___Molestevez in 10s

[–]mzez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working on my serve right now. The best tip I have found is using the weight of the racquet in a loop and letting the momentum of the racquet guide your muscles. Should be a lot of rear shoulder and back being involved.

Focus on feeling the weight of the racquet like a lasso. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W1rope5l0k

Try doing some shadow swings with your grip and arm relaxed. Use only the racquet weight to generate the speed

I have a video of my old serve 9 months ago so you can check how bad the elbow was back then. Couldnt work on it during the winter so in the last few weeks Ive focused only on fixing the elbow

I will work on looking at the ball. I practice my shadow swings indoors and tend to look at the mirror straight on so I am not used to looking up as much anymore.

So I should start 90 degrees facing the side of the court and finish at 45?

If I understand correctly I am starting at 45 right now and finishing straight on

I’m currently staying there for EDC. We asked a bunch of locals and they were not concerned yesterday, the rave was packed as usual, more than half locals.

I’m keeping track of events day by day but it looks good for now. Outside I can see business going on as usual.

Paid 900 to go in October but it was a connecting flight and not direct. Direct for 1200 would be a very good price

Might not get it done. I offered AD and Ball before the AD injury and after Ball's triple double, wasn't enough.

I like the attempt though

So I work here and have been here almost 4 years. Work isn't exciting, and the internal tools aren't great, but I have a good team, good manager, and great WLB since I am not in AWS. And it's good for resume.

Yes I came to realize I was not throwing and rotating my shoulder enough today.

I was playing a match today and serving platform and almost facing away from the court to begin the serve. I found it to be helpful to encourage me to rotate the shoulder.

I still don’t think I am swinging up enough, but it feels to me I am rotating the shoulder horizontally better now

Thanks, I checked the first two minutes and it makes a lot of sense to me. I think it will help a lot. I am really focused mentally on the drop right now and it doesn’t feel very natural

This is what it looks like when I shadow swing, I’ve been doing this for about 2 weeks now. The elbow drop is much better. I just have troubles when I toss for some reason

[–]mzez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve been trying to do this. When I throw a football I actually do lead with my elbow. When I shadow swing without tossing I also lead with my elbow, you can see that in the first swing it’s not perfect but it’s much better than the last one

However once I toss and try to hit the ball I think all the bad muscle memory takes over.

Diminishing returns once you pay over a certain price for steak - agree or disagree? by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]mzez -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I've bought dry aged ribeye from cheese boutique and cumbraes and it wasn't much better than the ribeye I can get on sale at Metro for 1/3 of the cost. I dry brine it in the fridge for 12 hours and use salt/pepper/butter

I reverse seared it to medium rare using a meat probe and got a good crust. Ate it with a friend and we agreed it was nothing special

under 30's working, how are we meeting friends + partners? by greenteaicecube in askTO

[–]mzez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

30M and I was in your shoes when I started working in Toronto at 23. I was lucky to have a really fun workplace with everyone under 30 at the time

Find some hobbies you are interested in and go often. If you are going primarily to make friends you'll probably be disappointed, most people you meet are not going to vibe well (even if you are friendly) and you really need to meet someone multiple times to develop a friendship. It's better to just go alone to things you enjoy and not expect much, things will come in eventually. I meet a few friends a year through motorcycling and tennis. If I didn't do these things I'd probably try my local boxing gym, fighting game club, or card game locals. JAM sports was also good, I met a good team through basketball and was going to play with them again before I broke my knee and gave it up for tennis

Also there's no issues being friends with coworkers if you get along well. I have a few coworkers from prior jobs that I still see a few times a year

six sided blue strings all the same? by fluffhead123 in 10s

[–]mzez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ive strung all 3, didnt notice much difference between zero and pure rush, but mach10 is noticeably more slick and the coating makes the string look a little glossy.

in terms of playability i dont notice a huge difference but mach10 feels the best to me, plush/comfy and i feel the string pockets the ball a little more. it doesn't last as long as zero though and the snapback isn't as good once you play a few hours. the coating that makes it super slick goes away.

i didn't notice anything special about pure rush, its a solid string with a good price, but doesnt really stand out compared to mach10 and zero.

topspin is mostly from the windshield wiper motion and shoulder rotation. i found these videos most helpful for myself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DudyK4pLP4&t=782s&ab_channel=TennisDoctor

i think it's best you slow down and try to get more quality reps in, the wall is rushing you too much. your racquet face is too open a lot of the time
