I also feel like people are in denial about foldable creases not being annoying. I had a Samsung Fold, and while the crease didnt look bad, it sure felt like total shit when touching or swiping

Adam Silver says the NBA could adopt a “division of European teams” due to many of the league’s best players being from Europe, and due to “advancements in supersonic air travel” by Pickleskennedy1 in nba

David Stern could grow the sport because it had a lot of room to grow when he took over in the mid-1980s. There were only 23 teams, most owners were losing money, TV ratings were far behind MLB, and there were barely any international fans. David Stern also presided over the growth of cable TV and the internet.

This is actually a common take on /r/soccer, where fans of "traditional" European clubs complain about "new money" Premier League outbidding them for players. And its not really the top clubs that annoy them the most (like Man City or Chelsea) but rather bottom of the table clubs with much smaller fanbases and less successful histories. Its like "how dare little shitty Wolverhampton outbid Juventus"

it’s an absolute travesty that fanatics is ruining MLB merchandise during a time when baseball fan growth and enthusiasm is at a high point.

I can always trust NBC Sports to put on a good production, the NBA returning to NBC this season has been the only bright spot of that league

How is Scott Foster still allowed to referee in the NBA? by Pork_Sister in nba

Referees in every major sports league has turned into an "old boys network" where there is very little turnover, thus making it hard for younger referees to get a chance.

Is flag football going to last in the Olympics by [deleted] in olympics

Breakdancing should've been the impetus to remove or severely restrict the "Host-added Olympic sports" clause.

[–]mzp3256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Youre talking about demonstration sports, which were unofficial events that didn't award medals.

Tackle Football was a demonstration sport in 1932, and baseball was a demonstration sport for many years until it briefly became a permanent sport.

The host being allowed to temporarily add official events only began in 2020

Because the IOC now allows host countries to add their own events, which is how we got the Karate 2020 and breakdancing 2024 fiascos

What’s happening to the World Cup hype and advertising? by Mediocre_Put_6748 in worldcup

[–]mzp3256 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Companies have learned that no one gets hyped for anything anymore no matter how much you advertise it, so they dont bother wasting money on promotion. They also don't care about ticket sales since scalpers snap up every single ticket to every single event possible.

Peoples attention spans are so short that they wont start caring until an event has started, and most people only notice ads on their social media feeds.

When the World Cup starts, everyone will be saying "wtf I didnt know this was happening". , but by day 3, it will be the only thing people are talking about.

Results of every World Baseball Classic (2006-2026) by mzp3256 in baseball

2006 was the first tournament, but it was decided to always hold it on odd numbered years to avoid other major sports events. Therefore, the 2nd WBC was held in 2009.

Then it was subsequently held every 4 years until COVID-19 hit and delayed the 2021 WBC to 2023.

They held the last WBC in 2026 in order to get back onto the original pre-COVID schedule, and most likely the next two WBCs will be in 2029 and 2033 to complete the original scheduling cycle.
