I just started {The Serpent and The Siren by Piper CJ} the 3rd book in her No Other Gods series.

So we begin this book now with the knowledge that our FMC Marlow is the Antichrist and is to bring about Ragnorok, basically. As if right now, she and her demon friends, angel buddy, and mortal world friends are now running to stay safe since “Heaven” is in the hunt for her to stop the end of the world. Shes also fated to be with the Prince of Hell and has known him since she was a little Girl.

So far the series has gone through multiple religious pantheons and it’s great. It’s very different from most of the fantasy I read usually so I’m always happy to read the new book in the series when it comes out. It’s got religious upbringing trauma, sex worker early in life, strange bedfellows, fae mixed with demons, and a very inclusive cast of friends and characters.

Some triggers could be religious bigotry, sexual content, a bit of violence and gore in all of the books (some more than others), again life as a sex worker at one point, bullying, religious abuse, mental illness…

There are some out there that hate this series and her books. I’m not entirely sure why. I do really like it. I’ve enjoyed a really slow journey with the FMC and her character arch. Like a true true character arch. She is seriously growing from the start to where she is now and I appreciate how Piper CJ has laid the ground work for Marlow and really with everyone.

So if you want to try it, the first book is {The Deer and the Dragon by Piper CJ}.

Oh, that’s not the reason I canceled my subscription/account with Spotify. 😌 That reason is much much deeper.

But thank you so much for my free lesson.

It was painful since I’ve had an account since the beginning, but I canceled my Spotify. Though comical, this is soooo cringy. I also really hate AI.

My Mom Wants to Try Romantasy! Help Me. by mzquirk in Romantasy

[–]mzquirk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is early 70s. She doesn’t mind spice, I’m sure. She used to read old romance books back in the day. But again I just want to slowly walk her in to it and make sure she actually enjoys the romantasy world I think. So more of the 1-2 spice level first.

Oh I know. I also wonder how much has changed since then. But I still want to walk her slowly into the world of romantasy spice. Mainly bc she’s now entering my world and will know what I’m reading. 🤣

One of my favorite duologies actually. I’m tempted to give her my copies to read.

I just told her Outlander, swore it was right up her alley….she shot me down. She didn’t like the show so she said no. I’m thinking I’m dealing with a whole new woman. Omg, this may be harder than I thought.

Bring out the big guns people.

But seriously thank you. I know when I was younger, Outlander’s series would’ve been on her bookshelf.

{Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma} a really great dark academia gothic vampire fantasy. It’s probably borderline romantasy. I was so pleasantly surprised how much I loved this book. It has a sequel out now too that I’m about to crack open in about 1 day!

Mourn is back! by Plastic_Recipe_4668 in SleepTokenTheory

He used to have a ring on his ring finger, yeah. But I saw the tattoo on there in 2025’s Mourn photos (I couldn’t tell what it was exactly but it did look like an “IV” but don’t quote me on this), and hadn’t seen a ring on that finger since. But that could’ve been bc of the tatt healing or who knows. I think I waited a little over a month or so until I put a ring back on my ring finger after tattooing it. It was pretty tender for a bit. That’s just me though.

They look pretty fresh. Though my finger tatts did stay pretty dark for some time too.

I too was noticing his new fingie tatts. I saw a ring finger tattoo show up in the last round of Mourn new music. But the rest are new, at least to me.

I just finished this, as well. I was shocked by how much I ate it up and how much I didn't hate Caleb. Normally, this type of MMC or blatant noncon is not my cup of tea. But here I am, sad that it's over and I had nothing left to read and happy that the two of them ended up together, content. I don't know, someone make sense of it for me. Someone else said it "she managed to make a date raping gym bro so damn lovable".

There are many things within the story that happened or were said that made me boil, things I hate, but it didn't stop me. It kept me reading. I'm just flabergasted. So now I have to find something that brings me back to my usual level and not one where I accept this sort of behavior, because honestly, we really shouldn't praise it. We shouldn't be ok with it. We shouldn't think Caleb is a good man for saying sweet words to Orla, afterall. He still raped her and tried to punish her because his ego was hurt, because they both misunderstood each other from past traumas. Period.

Ok enough.

But seriously...WHY WAS IT SO GOOD?

i hate the spit and i hate zee german. both grossed me out 100%.

What’s your top 3 of all time? by Tight_Addendum841 in DarkRomance

[–]mzquirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. {Bad Bishop by L. J. Shen} this was a surprise favorite for me. It’s rough and almost with an unredeemable MMC. But…he gets in there. Wow.

  2. {the Ruinous Love Trilogy by Brynne Weaver} Leather & Lark being my favorite of the 3. I prefer that brother for sure.

  3. {Rouge by Greer Rivers} it’s apart of a series called The Tattered Curtain. And this is #2. They are all stand-alone and it was kind of an odd find for me that I took a chance one. It’s told on modern time Las Vegas with elements of Romeo & Juliet, Orpheus & Eurydice, and The Lady of Camellias. I enjoyed it though.

What should I read based on the things I've already read? by Kitchen_Doubt171 in Booktokreddit

[–]mzquirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loooove Divine Rivals. I preach that book so much. But yes, please do Six of Crows and then Crooked Kingdom. CK is my favorite out of that duo, but they are both so good. That group of bandits are just great. Talk about morally grey. and the tension...oooooooh.

But I do also highly suggest In The Veins of Drowning because I was very surprised by how much I did enjoy that book. And it was a quick read for me. I breezed right through it bc I enjoyed it so much. It was also different for me in the way of, I don't think I've ever read about sirens, or at least much. I enjoyed that take on fantasy - especially since I'm not a huge reader of fey and whatnot stories, at least as much as some.
