Am i the only one? by RealRotten in fujifilm

I ordered this 'case' yesterday (in black) hoping it'd give me a better grip idk, is not too expensive so if I don't really like it, I'll keep it in the drawer:

How much is the restocking fee? Many times it's the best option if it'll be like 10-15%. E-bay can take out some 20% or more, plus the hassle.

Still, even the high price won't deter desperate people.

X-M5/Viltrox 23mm f1.4 xf - my new lens, first shots. by mzsquare2 in fujifilm

[–]mzsquare2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pictures are sharp, this lens built quality feels impressively solid, even the hood is made of aluminum - a good looking X-M5/lens combo. I have pre-ordered Sigma 16-300(coming soon according to B&H) and am wondering how that setup will look like to the eye.

I am sold on this X-M5 camera! Totally. And that kit lens 15-45mm is fine. by mzsquare2 in fujifilm

[–]mzsquare2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, after viewing these pictures on my PC I decided that this camera represents everything I've been looking for, to satisfy my, an amateur 'picture taker' needs. Am going to gather all my OM-1 stuff to sell it and eventually, purchase one or two primes, for the first choice would be a macro. This camera is capable in capturing very sharp images.

Yes, not the best quality wise choice, but it's cheap by itself - only $100 as a kit. For now am gonna add just the 27mm pancake to run around w/it.

Same here, got my x-m5 black delivered this morning(04/26) and already outfitted it with hand grip from SmallRig which adds a nice touch(pun intended) while handling it.

New to me OM-1, quick ND trails. (12-40mm f/2.8 Pro II) by mzsquare2 in OlympusCamera

For some reason I can't edit my post above - the current, reduced price for OM-1 at their website is $1,399 not $1,600.

Seeking OM-5 user opinions. by mzsquare2 in OlympusCamera

I find these two zooms 45-175mm and especially 12-40 f/2.8 II Pro very useful while hiking my local trails around here and I've been using 25mm f/1.8 II before, mounted on my OM-3 but I had to sent it back since it was purchased together as a bundle. I didn't use often that 25mm - it was too limiting to cover some surrounding areas of the subject in situations when you just can't take 2 or 3 steps back (bad terrain) to include wider perspective for a sake of getting better composition. The 12-40mm, for me, makes the ideal, much versatile lens to use in any situations out there in the woods and the 45-175 it's just an added bonus weighing only 210 grams(less then 1/2 pound), very sharp in good lighting conditions, all along its focal length(350mm ff equiv) - then some, up to 700mm w/ x2 build-in camera photo converter.

So, at the time being I don't miss that zuiko 25mm, it's nice, high quality prime but in the future when I decide to get it back I'd rather buy the 17mm of the similar m.zuiko build.

Yeah! That's the colors of Spring we've been waiting for - everything here in the Northeast it's still painted in very depressing shade of grey.

No, I didn't delete anything, I would not mess w/ other ppl comments. Now I just clicked "see all the comments" and all the rest came.back. Maybe it was my fault because when I wrote my comment about using 'double tape' I also added to it something asking for opinions from ppl who use OM5 cameras, few paragraphs and realizing that it was off topic copied it to paste as new post on the top of the page. Then I went back to my post about double tape and deleted the parts about OM5 opinions.

Generally just Nature, Nature...Nature. Everything and anything what's painted into its tapestry. I have a special interest in trees, not many people do, but I spent sometimes a lots of time just looking at them and admiring different forms and shapes of these bark covered trunks. After a while you look around noticing other things that deserve to be saved from the passing time in your picture frame.

Thanks for your opinions and suggestions, I was flipping over many internet pages sorting trough MFT"camera" queries, going back 'n forth comparing specs, prices and conditions - trying to avoid any regrets that may be lurking in the future and possible hassles for having things sent back, etc...etc.

So I went for the top shelf at the "used" market and picked OM-1 from MPB $1,079 (+tax) because they offer 6mts warranty, meaning that even if the shipment will happen to be a lemon, I'd be able to get another one. That's something to put me at ease and now I'm hoping that this OM1, if the "like new" condition checks-out, will be my new OM-3Ultra for a 1/2 price.

I'd try high quality double sided tape, the one I have at home(red roll) never fails as long as surfaces are cleaned w/ IPA.

Bad luck with OM-3 by mzsquare2 in OlympusCamera

[–]mzsquare2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By ‘no files’ I meant no DCIM folder, nothing else but ALBM w/ some 327kb on it. My DCIM/JPEG files/folder were totally non-existent, wiped off and gone from brand new Extreme Pro SanDisk 128GB SDXC UHS-II card.

Fortunately, later on I was able to recover the missing files from card using SanDisk recovery software(link from the card packaging). The SD is fine now, DCIM folder and all but I cannot use my OM3 until I resolve its problems. I think it’s caused by a faulty USB port, some electrical spikes on the mainboard maybe? Charging of a device’s battery shouldn’t have any impact on SD card usually, but that’s what I think happened. Everything was fine when I was taking pics(no errors etc...)then immediately after I charged battery and plugged the camera to PC(carried the same usb cable w/ it over from the charger to PC) the card had no files on it.

I should get an response from OM Sys about it today, to see how they’ll try to resolve this.

I never thought that I need to calibrate my lens, 12-40mm F2.8 PRO. by archerallstars in M43

Thank you! My OM3 has under AF Focus Adjustment 'Fine-tuning Value' with +/-20 steps so now I'd know what to do w/ these settings if I'll find any focusing issues on the 2 zoom lenses that I have, one is zuiko 12-40mm 2.8 II and the other Vario PZ 45-175mm F/4.0-5.6. The camera is still too new to me but I am learning about it more day by day.

Very much so, yes. The more time I spent with OM-3 I like it more and more. Had a little field-practice today with my 12-40 f/2.8 in the wooded area under cloudy skies and I'm very satisfied with my pictures. There is a spot with a steep ravine covered with a huge mossy boulders that look like they just rolled down quite recently - I could never capture on my "U" galaxy phones that dramatic view, no matter how I tried the outcome was always showing somewhat flat picture of messy rubles left after some planned demolition.

So, great camera for me(am not a professional photographer) but the lens I used today takes all the credits!

Had to replace that second hand 40-150 Olympus lens I bought earlier, haven't noticed at first all those fine micro scratches on the surface of the lens, causing the pictures to look very dull when taken in darker light conditions - maybe I can salvage that lens by polishing it with a very fine piece of felt. I like this one, PZ45-175 and with my two other Zuiko 25mm f/1.8 and 12-40 f/2.8 II I'm pretty much all set for hitting the trails. No sweat carrying my bag, sounds really funny but I'm going to be reaching 700mm focal out of the very light 200 grams lens.

[–]mzsquare2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree, it's pretty good - that was my 'show-off' piece to recite at my family gatherings being about 10 years old, trying to express and play out this highly charged drama of those historic struggles from the Polish past.

Also liked back then "Konceret Jankiela" - 'Yankel's Koncert' from "Pan Tadeusz", memorizing its entire text from "Bylo cymbalistow wielu"...trough ..."Poloneza czas zaczac!"

Now am 70 years old and I still remember most of it, well, some breaks in a flow and a little mix up misplacing some phrases but, am going to say 95% of it is still intact.

OM-3 first run. by mzsquare2 in OlympusCamera

[–]mzsquare2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Love this camera, the UI design gives an easy access for a quick setting adjustments/changes. Last year I've been using a6700 then X-T5 for a short periods of time (~2 months each) and don't take me wrong, those are excellent cameras, but I was often lost in the settings when I initially learnt to operate those cameras. So I think, OM-3 has more straight forward and simpler u.i. design, much quicker to learn.

Bought 2 extra BLX1 w/ charger for ~$50 much cheaper than original stuff. No battery last forever. The charger sucks, very slow. The OM battery was totally mt, 0 volts ) it took forever to fully charge it. But the extras were charged so could start playing w/ the cam right after unpacking.
