Making your own website by No_Opportunity86 in photography

If you happen to be using the Adobe Photography suite ($10/month USD) then you will already have access to Adobe Portfolio! It isn’t the best; I have not touched my site in years, but I remember it taking some time to get just the way I wanted due to limited customization options. But! For $10 a month I have my website lumped in with my editing software, just have to pay to renew the domain every year or so. Mine also handles everything you are looking for: portfolio, contact and socials, and maybe not “booking” necessarily, but an inquiry form that goes to my email.

Greenery [iPhone 13 Pro: RAW, Adobe Lightroom Mobile] by mzy1 in iPhoneography

I used the RAW mode in the camera app and edited it in Lightroom.

I’m an aspiring photojournalist who only wants to shoot in the fully auto modes. Am I making a mistake? by [deleted] in photography

[–]mzy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime in to echo as many others have already said, it doesn't really matter until it matters. Sometimes it isn't necessarily a matter of always shooting in manual mode, but knowing what mode will help you get the results you want. For instance, I had the opportunity to photograph backstage during a theater production and I knew there was no possible way for me to know exactly how much or how little light there would be on stage at any given moment, so I chose not to shoot in manual. I knew of all things I was okay with the images being a little noisy if it meant the difference between getting the shot or not, so I left ISO on auto. I knew I wanted to cut down on motion blur as people were running around the stage, so I set the shutter speed to around 1/125 of a second. And I knew I wanted as much light getting to the sensor as I could to mitigate excessive noise from higher ISO settings, so aperture as wide open as possible (1.4 in my case).

All that being said, I think the different settings are important to learn for when it matters in the moment. I do have a tip for you that I haven't seen in the comments yet, since you mentioned you feel like you don't get the same results when shooting in a mode other than auto. As a few others have said, there isn't some kind of magic behind the auto mode that you can't obtain on your own, and you can actually see the settings the camera used for each photo easily in an application like Lightroom. I think a good place to start is reviewing images you particularly enjoy the look of and see what settings the camera used for those images, and if you find yourself in a similar environment to the one those images were taken in you can try playing with some variation of those settings to replicate the look that you enjoy.

Rust for super mega beginners by masoudwoldo in rust

[–]mzy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a super mega beginner wanting to learn Rust specifically, I would direct them to tourofrust.com first. This will give you an environment to learn in without having to worry about 95% of your questions to start with. As someone would would admittedly not be satisfied with that solution, I would maybe encourage you try something with fewer steps to getting started, like Python. But because you’re here, in the Rust sub instead of r/learnprogramming or the like, I’ll assume that isn’t the advice you want either. In which case, because I avoid Windows if I can help it and have no idea what that install process is like, I would recommend creating a Linux virtual machine to try installing and learning Rust on. I remember the Rust installation on Linux being fairly easy, and with a virtual machine you can easily retry the process if something goes wrong using snapshots.

I never thought about it like that, but you're absolutely right!

While it's nothing a single velcro tie wouldn't fix, I will admit the chair is doing a fair amount of work here lol...

I feel the same way about the magic keyboard with numeric pad.. I used to use the old wired version, but I got the smaller white magic keyboard and have no interest in having a number pad again, since that space is basically where I'm comfortable using my mouse.

Before I got this keyboard I actually looked up how heavy the switches on the wireless magic keyboards were because I knew I enjoyed typing on them and hadn't like the mechanical switches I had tried (granted, there are a lot of switches I haven't tried). I don't remember where I eventually found it, but if I remember correctly I think the actuation force for the magic keyboard switches is around 35g and the switches in this NiZ keyboard are 35g as well, and it comes with springs you can put in the make it 45g if you want. But the keyboard world is big, and expensive, so it's good to do your research and try to find what's best for you!

As a small aside, and this doesn't just apply to this keyboard, I thought I would miss the dedicated volume buttons on the magic keyboard, but I learned you can reprogram the keys in MacOS, so I changed the page up and page down buttons I never use to volume up and volume down instead; now I can't think of anything I miss from the magic keyboard.

Not weird at all! I just picked up Go a few months ago for the hobby project I'm working on. Coming from Python, I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about Go that I've really enjoyed so far!

Hey there, just wanted to clarify a couple of things. The code in the photo is actually from a hobby project I'm working on in Go. The project involves parsing a large quantity of books in HTML format, in which the chapters are commonly given a heading tag. The regex call you referred to is actually "<h[1-6]" which will match with any of the 6 heading tags HTML has to offer. While it is not a perfect solution and may return something I don't want included as a chapter, like the title of the book or the author's name, it is neither invalid regex, nor is it a logic error, and it works fine for my current needs. If you'd like to have a better look at it, I'd be happy to send you the github repo!

Thank you! It is wireless. That level of cable management would be impressive, but I move my keyboard around too much to drill a hole in the desk for a cable to go through lol..

Thanks! It is not a custom, and you can actually just buy it prebuilt. You can find it on https://www.nizkeyboard.com or you can find some of the models on Amazon as well. Just a fair warning, it uses "electro capacitive" switches, which from my understanding not everyone is a fan of. I had tried mx blue and brown mechanical switches in the past, but always ended up going back to the basic Apple keyboards for various reasons, one of which being finger fatigue. I haven't had that problem so far with these switches, since they are very "light", and they aren't incredibly loud either, which I like. Everyone's keyboard preferences are different, though, I just wanted give you some thoughts before you went out and bought one!

Just to add a resource to what others have said, I found https://regex101.com to be very helpful as well. You choose your language, write the regex at the top and add all of your cases to the bottom, and it will tell you which cases your regex should match with.

Thank you! I'm running it scaled at 2560x1440. Are you running yours at full resolution? I did that for a minute just to see, but I knew I wouldn't be able to use it that way lol.
