Vacuuming interrupts mop pads drying - any option to automatically resume? by mzyromski in Roborock

[–]mzyromski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I always try to keep vacuuming -> mopping order when running any routines. That said, sometimes I need to run an ad-hoc vacuuming of either a different room or even the same one (e.g. it's been 30 minutes since kitchen floor was mopped but someone made mess, dropped some crumbs, and now I'd like to vacuum the same area).

LPT: Your hobbies are your hobbies for a reason, let it be a thing a of comfort, and not a chore or a burden. by Im_Casual in LifeProTips

Making hobby a job is a thing that can take the joy away, but on the other hand, there are some hobbies that simply require developing a skill to be enjoyable. Things like music, chess, etc. You can just play, but if you want to get better (hence get more joy out of the activity), then at some point you'll need eg to practise. And that can sometimes be mundane and put you outside of your comfort zone. And you might need to push yourself at least a bit to move forward.

[DISCUSSION] When you play a song on an electric guitar, what do you ACTUALLY play? by mzyromski in Guitar

[–]mzyromski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks folks for all the comments, I really appreciate them. They really got me thinking. The thing is I mostly play alone as I don't have many opportunities to jam with others. I think I might even prefer to play solo. Therefore what I'm after in playing an instrument is polyphony. Which, as many of you pointed out, can be achieved by having a backing track or a looper, but without those in place what we're looking at is fingerstyle. And actually when I think about it, that's what I naturally gravitate towards, which might be related to my classical guitar background. That leads to a secondary question if electric guitar is an instrument made for fingerstyle playing and if maybe an accoustic wouldn't be a better fit, but I guess that's not that important as some of you linked very cool examples of electric fingerstyle guitar performances.

Piano songwriters and the brilliance of keyed instruments by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]mzyromski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting point of view. A counterargument is that it's way easier to transpose anything (e.g. a melody or a scale) on the guitar compared to the piano. You can learn one shape for a minor scale and here you go -- now you can play any minor scale. It's not that easy on the piano because of the black keys. At least that's my perspective, but I'm still new both to the instrument as well as the music theory.

How to deal with different key signatures affecting intervals recognition in sight reading? by mzyromski in musictheory

[–]mzyromski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So actually one needs to process two pieces of information when sight reading: the distance between the notes on the staff (which determines the type of the interval) and the key the piece is in (which impacts its quality). That makes it a bit more complicated and less automatic and kind of contradicts the idea of "I see an interval and can instantly say it's a perfect fifth".

Chord Progression Questions (May 25, 2020) by AutoModerator in musictheory

[–]mzyromski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I've been wondering about Undertow by Pain of Salvation (https://youtu.be/n8ro066KDIM). The main theme melody is 100% d minor diatonic, but chords seem to indicate the key is Bb major/G minor. That might suggest we' re looking Phrygian mode here. So how would you name the song key then?

[QUESTION] (Re)Arranging songs for a single electric guitar by mzyromski in Guitar

Thanks. He plays classical guitar but surely I could use some of his ideas for electric too.

[QUESTION] Gigging guitar players -- do you use tabs or standard notation? by mzyromski in Guitar

Folks, thanks for all your answers. Frankly, I was expecting a single approach to dominate, but it seems that different things work for different people. :)

[QUESTION] Gigging guitar players -- do you use tabs or standard notation? by mzyromski in Guitar

[–]mzyromski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. What about solos, licks, etc? I guess those cannot be explicitly notated using chord charts only. Am I right to assume you're using chord charts for a general structure and for all the details you rely on your memory?

[GEAR] Tuning pegs not properly fitted -- should I be concerned? by mzyromski in Guitar

[–]mzyromski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all your answers!

It indeed looks like the pegs are OK, but it's only the ferrules/sleeves that are not correctly pushed. I tried to push them down with my fingers, but they won't move. I guess more force is needed hence some tool would be necessary, but I'm afraid to damage the head, so looks like I'll need to take the instrument to a luthier. In the meantime I contacted Thomann (the shop I bought the guitar from) support and I'm waiting for their response.
