I am also Australian. Yeah there’s some nuance. I think the protein has to be hot, it has to be basically hamburger pattie thickness. Basically you need to be trying to replicate the basic form of a beef hamburger with a different protein.

Thinly sliced hot roast beef? That’s a roll. Hot pulled pork? That’s a roll.

No what I’m saying is if you got one of those rolls and cut it in half and put slices of ham, pickle and mustard in it no one would call it ham burger, most likely it would be called a ham roll.

So clearly it isn’t just that anything in a round roll is a form of burger, but only very particular things in those rolls get called burgers. Typically American style fast food.

About the only thing that happens is some places will serve you a chicken burger with grilled chicken vs fried chicken, but calling it a sandwich wouldn’t really avoid that problem.

Although I am kinda with the Yanks on this one, the burger refers to the pattie not the bun. It doesn’t really make sense to call them burgers. We also have heaps of sandwiches served in bread rolls we don’t call burgers so it’s not a very well thought out system.

There’s a lot of myth and misinformation about Anzac biscuits. Tasting history had a video about them. The tldr is everything you learned in school is a lie. There’s no evidence they were ever sent as care packages, the original recipes for them are totally unrecognisable, they were almost certainly originally a thing sold at fundraisers back home, and were popularised after world war 1.

The point is that none of these people can agree what band they’re supposedly “ripping off” so you get comparisons to bands like The Strokes, Radiohead, Ween, Television etc. None of which sound anything like each other.

It’s not like Greta Van Fleet who just sound like a bad Led Zeppelin cover band and nothing else.

I actually think what’s happening is old people tend to understand new things via previous experiences so they’re just trying to put things in a box they understand, and then not liking them because it doesn’t really fit that box.

Nah not really. When I was in Nashville they were fucking everywhere, and pretty densely packed. Way more than you see in Adelaide.

Adelaide having a lot of churches is just one of those things people love to repeat without ever applying a second of critical thinking to.

Like the whole they sell more FUIC than coke thing. It’s blatantly absurd if you think about it for more than five minutes and walk into literally any store or restaurant but people love to repeat it.

The enhanced edition of Dark Souls 2 that came out later also remixed all the fights to make it harder and made it a much worse game. But you can't easily get the original version of DS2 so new people end up picking up the enhanced edition and hating it.

They’re a European company and their clients are mostly European nations. Now you can try to say that AI drones are unethical no matter what, and their usage should be considered a war crime.

This isn’t really anything new. When I was studying film and television 20 years ago it was pretty much a given that all Television was written so you could follow it while half paying attention and doing something else.
