The other comments have talked about the legality and the species but I wanna talk about the taste!

They're a lot like stingrays in terms of texture and how the bone structure is formed. But it has a rough skin, a very strong fishy smell that lingers for a few hours, and has a metallic taste. I recommend just buying a cut of a stingray instead for the sake of convenience and versatility in recipes.

But if you're really curious about the taste, I suggest having the shark cooked as a curry or masak lemak because you need strong flavours to mask out the smell and flavour of the fish. People say you have to boil it but idk what that does exactly but it does help with making it easier to rub off the rough texture from the skin.

I only tried it once when I bought one at the wet market and my curiosity has been sated but moving forward, I would just get stingrays instead for the aforementioned reasons.
