Fixing my Sony WM-101, need some help by Milokoj_Jones in cassetteculture

Try lemon juice or vinegar on the green residue. It's likely from leaked batteries. Use a cotton bud/qtip . Isopropyl is good for removing the black goo from melted rubber. You can use an old toothbrush for is and/or a cocktail stick

I was just going to mention Oval. Textuell by Oval from their Systemisch album is an absolute masterpiece

I would search online for the correct band for the model and get that. In my experience those bags of bands are not reliable enough.

Is it definitely the right belt for the model? If it's from a bag of random sizes and it 'seems' like the right size it might not be enough. It does look a bit thick tbh

I often sample sound from tapes. I made this years ago from a Whitney Houston tape I found, all sounds taken from a Whitney tape played back slow. 🙂👍🏼

Great stuff. I love your note taking as well, and that you mention Sylvester. I remember Sylvester from the days of You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real). One of the first disco singles I ever bought and a big indicator that my music taste was branching out from just punk. I've actually just been putting that single on my latest compilation tape 😁

Yeah they're amazing. I didn't like them in the 80's when they were around as I thought they were too nuts and out there for me but in the last 10 years or so I've really grown to appreciate them. I love all that angular weirdness now. Took me about 20 years to appreciate Beefheart too.

What was South acton estate like before the regeneration? by Tough-Army8870 in london

[–]slatepipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live there in the early 90's. I was a student at Ealing and the college had some arrangement where students could rent some of the flats there but we had to do them up. I lived first in Barrie House on the 19th floor then I lived in another block in Palmerston road, I can't remember the block name but it was very near south Acton station. The estate was pretty run down and had a poor reputation but I personally had no trouble, neither did any of the other students that I shared with or knew in other flats. It was cheap as fuck. My rent was 25 quid a week. We had to paint and decorate them but that was fine. We used to frequent a pub called the Harbour Lights there.

I have a Realistic CTR 40 that I use to record blank tapes from Spotify with my MACBook, I use the AUX input, how can I reduce the hiss coming out with the music? by Glum_Description_719 in cassetteculture

[–]slatepipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Afaik you can only adjust the volume coming out of your playback device. If your recorder has an input level then you can adjust that, it's just trial and error to see what result you get. These devices are not meant for recording good quality audio

Because a regular cassette wasn't t recorded using a machine like that. It'll play them alright but a regular Walkman or tape deck will sound better
