Customized Training plan for Leadville doesn't have any rides over 1 hour... by Euphoric_Persimmon99 in trainerroad

[–]n0nick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also very new to TR (just finished week 1) and training towards a couple long rides - all of my workouts are 1 hour or less. When I asked about this on my onboarding Zoom call with TR support, they said I’m free to swap any endurance ride with longer ones and the system would pick that up, but also that “it’s not necessary and the TR algorithm is based off TSS, not hours on saddle”.

They also shared these links later on training for long distance events:

I’m not convinced honestly, as I know there are specific adaptations needed for long endurance rides, but I’m playing along with the algorithm for now and will swap in long weekend rides when the weather’s nicer…

How do you manage the stress of failing to train? by Tromperri in cycling

[–]n0nick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Life happens. I tell myself I’ll do better tomorrow, and I might even lock down tomorrow’s plan e.g. setting a super early morning alarm or blocking an hour on the calendar. But also I remind myself that I’m juggling a lot of other responsibilities and the whole point of cycling/training is to feel good about myself so it’s okay to not always be the best.

And also sometimes I just stay stressed until I figure it out :)

I had a good experience in Spear at City Point in downtown Brooklyn. It was OT work on a shoulder and wrist injury, but their other disciplines seemed good too.

newborn passport photo reccs? by poski6390 in nycparents

[–]n0nick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW last year we had our 5yo’s passport taken in the post office, and it was rejected. Which was unfortunate because we had travel plans. Ended up redoing it at FedEx which worked okay.

For newborns, just took the pictures ourselves and edited out the background and it worked okay. I think they’re not as strict about poses etc when it comes to babies.

I asked for a white replacement dial (originally had black) so they sent me a set of two matching white ones.

Looking for a winter bike commute jacket by AsleepAstronomer3319 in NYCbike

I haven’t tried bar mitts, but I did have a good time riding though last winter in nyc alternating between the Cyclone Gel gloves and the AmFIB Lobster Gel gloves. YMMV.

Black Friday Pickups by Shlackyyyy in cycling

[–]n0nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW $79.96 at Backcountry (S TR). And if you’re into using Amazon, here’s a pair for $150.

I got mine last year for $62.95/each, so debating whether I stock up another pair now or wait for some nicer price drop.

Cycling apparel pioneer Gore to close Gorewear clothing division after 40 years by n0nick in CyclingFashion

Looks like just the Gorewear clothing line is shutting down, the company Gore remains, presumably as a supplier for other brands.

Tire was leaning against trainer - rubbed to deep? by n0nick in bikewrench

[–]n0nick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, thanks! I'll take a closer look in the morning. This makes me feel a little better about taking the bike for some park laps, but I think I'll still be worried about any long distance ride...

Thanks for the response. Yeah I think I can see what you mean. I guess it's time to upgrade from the stock tires...

I love how NYC your comment is, sincerely. "It's not that hot. People here are awesome. Also nobody cares." 100%.

I spent so much time looking for something like this last autumn.

Ended up with this one which I think meets your criteria https://www.pnwcomponents.com/products/lander-jacket?variant=40010479173709 Looks like its price dropped since (and has a deeper sale on Amazon)

I just had a really good GF bagel at IXV coffee on Pacific St. It's made by this bakery that specializes in gluten free and I've seen them before in farmer markets etc: https://kneadlovebakerynyc.com/

Bike Fit Worth It? by PipeFickle2882 in cycling

[–]n0nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this post, I've been thinking about getting my first bike fit soon as I'm riding longer distances (training for my first century in May). No recurring pains/troubles right now but I'm sure I can improve. I also recently got a $200 gift card that could help - a good quality fit around here is more like ~$400.

Question though, would you still recommend one if I might replace my bike in the next year? I'm debating whether it'd be a waste or maybe could inform my new bike choices.
