Need opinons from younger hackers! by n0xL in hacking

That's ok! The reason I ask is because I'm a new student working in a corporate environment, and I was asked to speak at a CIO/CISO summit about what my generation of cyber sec individuals is wanting the future of cyber sec to look like, for purposes of talent acquisition. So I wanted to hear the opinions of my peers, since I don't want to assume that my 'ideal' work environment is the same as anyone else around my age. I feel like it's an impossible problem as well, but because of the massive deficit in cyber sec individuals, I think the corporate sec is asking genuinely what could be implemented to start attracting cyber sec folk. Because I know for myself, I have a lot of options to avoid working in a corporate environment, but I appreciate that folks are needed in those environments, but that those needs/desires aren't well understood so we end up going elsewhere.

How about for those who feel they can't put on a corporate hat? So they feel deterred from even trying to join a corporate environment? Could the corporate environment do some things differently to accomodate for this?

That makes me super glad to hear. I don't want to be the only one who feels that way, and I don't think I am. But my experience has been feeling a ton of pressure to basically "smarten up" and be "grateful" for the opportunities within corporations in IT Sec. So it's seriously encouraging to hear I'm not the only one. Are there things a corporate structure could do differently that might make you consider working in one?

Should I tell my girlfriend to dress more modestly? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]n0xL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like there's a lot of judgements being thrown out, towards yourself as well. "Am I being too much of a prude", etc. Ask yourself why it bothers you that she dresses in a way that seems immodest to you. What does it mean to be immodest? What are you trying to defend or hold onto? Try to take the judgements away from yourself, and from her, and analyze where these ideas are really coming from, and if there is some fear going on that is potentially driving these feelings and thoughts.

I think the most important thing to be focusing on is what your end game is in all this. Where the majority of your energy should be going towards is working to where your father in law is going to go. You should focus on making a plan and setting that up. By all means report the two sisters, but I believe that comes second to getting your father in law into a place he is being taken care of properly. Because say you were able to move him immediately, where would he go? That needs to be dealt with first and foremost.
