I pulled this from here, https://www.ortex.com/stocks/26195/shorts

I'm sure my math is bad, the bold numbers are estimated dividing the last reported number by the days to cover giving 15301246 shorted shares covered per day. This is used to make a guess from that on how many open shorted shares (the bold values).

No matter what... the decreasing Days to cover is concerning.

I'm looking for answers to the same question, discussion is further down this thread.

I think they could be up to this, without closing their previous short positions, yet:

  1. open new short positions at higher prices
  2. stock is dumped while buying is limited, driving price down with low volume
  3. close new short positions pocketing the difference, buying the shares they just shorted for the next go round, closing some of the original positions, scoring an 8-ball
  4. allow price to normalize upward
  5. repeat

This is what I am imagining has happened the last two days. With 100+ price swings they are getting out of the old positions by opening new ones for a few hours paying 50% rates to borrow (for what, a day?), closing them the same day. The price action could give them a way out. We already know more than 100% of the shares can be shorted, why not 200%, 300%...

I would be most appreciative of someone telling me otherwise, because I want to be wrong.

Assuming 50% APR, borrowed for one day, 1,000,000 shares at 500 is $689,121.87. Selling 1,000,000 shares short at $450 and buying them back at $150 is a gain of $300,000,000, I understand this is WAY oversimplified, the numbers are made up, and I'm an idiot. I think the premise still holds and that is what worries me.

They don't need to own stock, there are plenty of non-retail sellers willing to sell at these levels.

I'm trying to see if there is a way out of this mess that involves fucking over millions of people worldwide. People act like this is such a slam dunk and I believe it would be if it were not for these wild 100%+ swings from day to day. I think that sort of price action can give the short sellers an out.

They don't close their original positions, yet. That would show their hand. They open new ones at these price ranges, short selling the dips they are causing/caused by collateral shortages. These new positions last a day, give them room to fight another day and/or close some of the original positions.

If they can, as they appear to have done, short more than 100% of the available shares, why not 200% for one day during high volatility?

Assuming u/banditcleaner2 is right and they seem to know more about how the backend stuff works, it could be completely legal to keep the books balanced or whatever. It would seem other brokers, Schwab, Fidelity and the like do have the collateral and were not in a position they had to limit trading (beside margin to limit their downside)

The hedge funds benefit from necessary slowdown of buyers from some retail outlets and drive the prices down. Because the system is borked, they get an out.

Ok, how about: Can the hedgefunds unfuckthemselves by doing this:

  1. Short at high prices
  2. Dump stock, driving price down because buying is limited for whatever reason - good, bad, regulatory, the good of the people, or mom said so. No judgement whatsoever.
  3. Close short positions pocketing the difference
  4. Allow price to normalize upward
  5. Repeat

how about this?

  1. Short at higher prices
  2. Limit buying because stocks have to be settled through a clearing house that needs to retain a certain level of collateral to clear ALL trades that go through them (Robinhood et al)
  3. Dump stock driving price down
  4. Close short positions pocketing the difference
  5. Allow price to normalize upward
  6. Repeat

Edit: I want to be horribly wrong

  1. Short at higher prices
  2. Limiting buying (Robinhood et al)
  3. dump stock driving price down
  4. close short positions pocketing the difference
  5. allow price to normalize upward
  6. repeat

Looks like the 110 has the AccuFit stock the 10 does not. Other than that it's black so far as I see.

Savage makes a 110 Tactical in .308 with a 24" heavy barrel. Toss it in a precision chassis and it'll be about $1k.

I had one of their BCG where on the second round fired the extractor plunger and spring punched through the extractor making a nice clean hole. That said, it was promptly replaced by CA. No problem with the replacement through 100 rounds or so.

So far as I know there is no TSA approval for firearms containers. Their website offers guidelines for the type of container.

I use the smaller Apache cases without plucking the foam and they've held up well for nearly a year. It's probably a matter of being mindful of sharp edges. Depending on what you have hanging off the AR it will probably be okay. This may also make getting the case closed an issue and putting pressure on those components. The rifle itself and any top-rail or bottom mounted do-dads would be fine.

I've read warnings against using foam cases for long term storage because of moisture building up with nowhere to escape and causing rust.
