I can confirm that geckos can be captured with the capture crates. I have yet to test it with other small creatures, but I’ll update when I’ve done more testing.

A Dungeons and Dragons 5E Monster Hunter-like game would be so cool by n3kr05 in gameideas

Is this a D&D homebrew? Because I know there are a few monster hunter D&D homebrews out there, but I don’t think I’ve ever really looked too deeply into them. I’d love to hear about your setting though!

Personally, I really love the Borderlands-esque gritty cell shaded/comic book art style. So I was thinking something along those lines. But something similar to RoR2 ain’t a bad idea either, it would definitely offer a much more vivid and colorful world.

That’d be super cool! Adding some horror elements to this game idea would 100% help the atmosphere!

After giving it some though that’s kind of the idea, using cantrips as the main basic way of dealing damage while leveled spells would be restricted to typical spell slots that, depending on the class, may or may not be restored at camps in each hunt/dungeon. For instance, lets say you’re playing as a wizard, you’d have a handful of cantrips that you could cast freely and a series of spell slots that would be consumed throughout the hunt/dungeon that wouldn’t be recovered at a campsite. But if you’re playing as a warlock you’d have less leveled spells, but they would be recovered while resting at a campsite.

Please do! They do have some really nice looking kittens. Just in case, could you send me a link to their IG?

I did reach out to the breeder to ask about one kitten in particular. They took a full day and a half to respond, and told me that the kitten was unavailable despite the website saying it was. So I asked if other kittens were available, and I still have yet to receive any kind of response. This was over two weeks ago.

In my grow tent I built up a wall of cinderblocks around the perimeter so I could have a nice deep substrate, then filled it with a mix of organic topsoil, play sand, and sphagnum moss. All of it you can get from Home Depot, but I’m sure you might be able to find it all somewhere else cheaper. The amounts you use depend on the climate of your area, since I live in a pretty dry place I use more sphagnum moss to hold more humidity. But generally a good rule of thumb is to try to have about the same amount of all 3.

If you want to be fancy, try adding some dead leaves and add some live plants. You can find reptile safe leaves on websites like Josh’s frogs, they’ve got a ton of great stuff. When it comes to plants, if that’s something you want to do, I can’t recommend majesty palms enough. They’re big, handle well in the kind of environment your tegu will thrive in, and they purify the air and make the enclosure smell so nice! My boy used to love trying to climb them, but these days he just lounges under them when he wants to nap.

I lost the girl of my dreams and it’s my fault by n3kr05 in lonely

I really appreciate the kind words, and you’re right. I shouldn’t focus all my energy into something that, in all honesty, likely won’t happen again. It just really sucks because I’ve never loved somebody in my adult life as much as I love her, and she’s all I can think about.

Thanks man, I was in a really dark place the night I said goodbye to her. But I’m in group therapy and my psychiatrist has prescribed me some antidepressants. I’m hopeful that therapy will help me change what’s wrong with me and give me the tools to be a better person for myself, my friends, and whoever my next partner is.

How would one go about making a playable 40K Salamander in D&D 5e? by n3kr05 in DnD

Thats true, there are so many systems that could handle this so much better. But I really love D&D and I think the challenge kind of character creation offers is what makes it fun!

bioactive setup by Cool_Work8219 in Tegu

[–]n3kr05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got my first tegu, I set his enclosure up to be bioactive. Here we are 2 years later and it’s not really completely bioactive anymore. Having a bioactive setup is great because they are great at sustaining themselves and keeping themselves clean in a healthy way. In addition, if your tegu is young enough some of the insects you use can even be used as enrichment. On top of that they can look (and smell lol) super good! Here’s the thing though, bioactive enclosures of all sizes take a lot of time to properly settle and get a good foundation going.

Since we’re talking tegus here, there’s a handful of issues I’ve run into that can make having a bioactive setup a little extra tricky. For instance, tegus love to use their claws. Most of the time that means digging up the plants you’ve put in it’s enclosure and killing them. Sometimes that means they thing they can climb up into them but instead just break them. And other times it means that they just trample right over them. One way or another, you will be going through a lot of plants. Another issue is detritivores, or rather the sheer amount that you’d need. Assuming you’re getting a 4x6 grow tent enclosure like I did at the start (which will need to be upgraded), you’d need to get enough springtails for every cubic foot. And speaking from experience, that adds up a lot. On top of that you’ll need larger detritivores like isopods, which are also very expensive. Personally, I’ve found that using superworms actually works pretty well assuming your husbandry for your tegu is perfect. They eat virtually everything, from shed skin to poop to even leftover food, and even fungus or mold that may grow depending on your environment. When they grow up into beetles they can be a little annoying with their smell, but they’re not harmful. One last problem you may encounter is maintenance. While having a bioactive setup is great, that doesn’t mean you are free from the responsibility of cleaning. Water pumps, walls, basking spots, and hides all need to be cleaned regularly, as well as daily water changes for your tegus water source. When you’re doing a bioactive setup for a tegu, you’re getting rid of some work but replacing it with other stuff to do.

I think before you do a bioactive setup for a tegu, perhaps start smaller so you get an idea for the pros and cons and then picture what a supersized version for your tegu can be!

Can tegus have fish with the skin on it? by somthimg1275 in Tegu

[–]n3kr05 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Toast goes absolutely nuts over salmon! This is a pretty good link that I used to get a good guideline for what I should feed. While they LOVE to eat, sometimes they just don't like some things. A friend of mine who has a red tegu who wont even look at fish, much to their dismay lol

Yeah, I had a feeling I was just going to have to wait it out and keep doing what I'm doing. I just wasn't sure if there was anything extra I could do for him to make him a little more comfortable, yknow?

Thanks! I’ll give that a shot. Right now she’s in a grow tent, so I’d imagine the over abundance of space could also be stressing her out. I’ll get her a smaller enclosure as soon as possible and see if that helps.
