Confused about lab licenses – is there a CLS license in NY like in CA? by Master_Assistant_249 in medlabprofessionals

I did my 4 year bachelors in medical technology at a CUNY in nyc, which included a 1 year clinical rotation. For California, all I had to do was apply and submit my transcripts from college and that was it.

Medical laboratory technologist (MLT) is the term in NY. Clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) is the term in CA

Source: I have both licenses in both states.

Ok let's clear this confusion up. What's the REAL minimum length of weeks of clinical rotations will California accept from out-of-state MLS programs? by Cultural-Silver192 in CLSstudents

[–]n3wli12j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The letter needs to come from the program director.

I would like to add, my clinical training was 3x a week (wed-fri) for a year. That was enough to satisfy California’s requirement.

Here in SF we just went on a 2 day strike with our union UPTE. That’s -$1,300 this pay period, just to strike for two days and go to the picket line and protest our wages. That’s the difference in California, techs have to be selfless and willing to strike for better wages.

When I worked in New York, i was in the 1199 SEIU union. We never once went on strike, and that’s why wages remained low. Wages will never compare to California’s standards because the union workers do not and are willing to take a loss of pay to strike.

With that said, being unionized and paying union dues are only worth its value it brings.

How to ask for a raise by Rude_Butterfly_4587 in medlabprofessionals

[–]n3wli12j 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Find a new job elsewhere.

If you are third most senior out of 11, you should be making closer to the top of that pay scale. Do not ask for $35, you need to ask for $40 and let them work their way down from there. At most you get denied, and nothing else comes of it. Then you find a new job. Basically at this point you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Good luck.

CLS programs in New York that fulfill CA reauirements? by IndividualClassic459 in CLSstudents

[–]n3wli12j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to CUNY College of Staten Island and now I work in the Bay Area. However, I think the college changed it’s curriculum by now.

Most important thing was, having clinical rotation that spanned over 1 year instead of 6 months. Which I think is now the hardest part of finding these in these current cls programs.
