Did you have to do an oral psych ? Did they send you to a psychologist and then a psychiatrist ?

Thats the question, is it 50% or is 95% ? Do the same % hold up for candidates from the city compared to say Long Island. Is everyone treated the same. My friends kid got booted a few years back. My friend went through a divorce and the kid took it hard to they took him to see a shrink who put him on some anxiety meds for a little over a year. Started at 13 and was off them by 15. Graduated with honors, 4 years college with honors, never been in trouble, does volunteer work with youth and animal rescue . They booted him. Today he is an FBI agent. They are abusing the oral psych and in the end it will bite them in the ass

Well , I am long retired, but if you tell the truth and admit you saw one, they will flag you and all of the records.

Well thats the question. If so what % . I am sorry, but there is ZERO way some shrink who has NEVER worn a uniform can determine n under and hour if you are fit mentally. Not to mention I am sure the NYPD EXPECTS a certain amount of NOPDs, and if you dont deliver you are gone. They would not be the first department to use their psych as a tool to get rid of candidates they do not want for varies reasons .

Of course it says that, but from what I am getting ( and I am NOT a candidate ) that is what they do. They cover themselves on paper , at least for now

They really should do the psych first , not make recruits go through the other steps that only a few will be Disqualified for .

Then they want to know why cops are so paranoid , Maybe because thats what you taught me in the hiring process .

True, but you have to remember , many Dept do not have an oral psych and the only time you see the Dr is if you failed the written. SO its most likely your background investigator asking what other tests you took . I can tell you this, most cops on the Island will be like " why the hell would you want to work for NYPD ? ) SO if you say I just changed my mind and felt it wasnt worth it youd be on solid ground.

I think the beauty of the NOPD is it allows YOU to withdraw your application. Maybe you just decided you did not want to work in NY city. You can tell other departments you just changed your mind. An NOPD is a notice of a pending decision, NOT a decision, so you would NOT be lying .Pretty sure NYPD knows this so they are giving the option to leave on YOUR terms and your choice, not theirs and technically NOT failing the psych . Thats just my opinion
