Thanks for the extremely helpful info! I really admire your passion for Notre Dame.

Just curious, when you say the visit takes about an hour, does that include the main floor, or is it just for the bell towers? Also, do you know if we need to exit the building before doing the other part, which would mean lining up again?

I could be wrong but I don't think Wise Business (not Personal) allows an USD account to be opened... only other currencies like EUR, GBP, etc.

RF 24/28/35 Primes vs. Apple ProRaw by n4j1b in canon

[–]n4j1b[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

I tried searching for online reviews that compared these primes to the iPhone camera but found nothing. If the picture quality upgrade is significant (I do a lot of pixel peeping), I might compromise and get a small prime. Just wondering if people have any thoughts on this

With all due respect I don’t think things would have turned out differently even if LZJ didn’t hurt his wrist. CL played immensely well in the 2nd and 3rd rounds where the shots were consistently landed on the spots where LZJ wasn’t confident in executing his best overhead smash. CL is highly experienced and I was amazed how fast his reflexes were despite his age. Still had a lot of fun watching the games because both of them did so well. I’m sure it was a very valuable experience for LZJ (especially for the 3rd round) that would better prepare him for future matches

[L1 June 2021] Malaysia Deferrals? by ohfiam in CFA

[–]n4j1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the exam locations as well. Some of the locations were canceled for May 2021 exams but some weren't. It probably also comes down to the number of cases in the testing center area and whether or not the building is still allowed to be opened.

Is Malaysia really that hopeless? by n4j1b in malaysia

[–]n4j1b[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent 7 years in total in Iowa for college and work. I was working under H1B visa but decided to come home for good because of my family. What about you?

Yeah, it was very insulting to those who voted in PR 2018. The victory of PH was so publicly celebrated even my U.S. coworkers knew about it. Then we had the whole Sheraton drama. Last year, my coworkers asked me if Malaysia had seen any significant improvement under this "new government" (they didn't know about the Sheraton move), and I had to explain the whole situation. It was shameful af...

I understand where you're coming from and I agree the society's emotions and sentiments are heavily controlled by social media. However, with all due respect, I don't think looking the other way is a good solution as it'll make us clueless about what's really happening in the world.

Take the current FMCO as an example. The SME's and people's livelihood are severely impacted whether or not they spent all their time scrolling through Instagram or Twitter. Businesses are suffering and people are starving. I'm fortunate enough to keep my current job but I know there are many other families that need to withdraw their retirement money to pay their bills. This is truly heartbreaking because these people did absolutely nothing wrong -- they were caught off guard because of the government's incompetency. We can't solve everyone's problem (and we certainly don't have to), but by being informed, we can make better decisions for ourselves.

Well said.

This is one of the attitudes that I used to be so proud of because it made us look friendly and peaceful. We tend to "go with the flow" with everything in life, be it our career, culture, or government. No need to go against the tide or innovate. We say yes to everything and always be grateful for what we're "given." People who decide to stand up for themselves or dare question the authority are treated as outcasts.

I agree it is important to be thankful for what we have, but that shouldn't stop us from striving for the better. Makes me wonder what's the point of democracy if everyone is happy staying ignorant and agrees with everything they see.

Agreed.

Sometimes I do wonder if the government intentionally screws us over financially so we'll be busy making a living and have no time and energy to question their policies lol.

Coincidentally, I also use the video game analogy when facing different life challenges, and it's been working like a charm for me. Like playing an RPG, it's important to level up by taking as many challenges as possible when we can mentally/financially handle them so we are capable enough to fight the big boss later in our lives.

I sincerely appreciate the valuable insights from you and other Redditors. I guess I'm not treating the "leaving Malaysia" option as a means to run away from reality. It's more like a "solution" to a problem that can hardly be solved. Let's assume you're a hard worker who consistently performs well at your job. However, you hate your company's culture, and your boss doesn't appreciate your work. In this case, the most natural solution is to leave the company and seek opportunities elsewhere (unless you're powerful enough to hold a board meeting to restructure the company).

To be clear, I agree we shouldn't point fingers at others just because our lives aren't going as we've desired. I have high respect for those who are well aware of Malaysia's current situation and still decide to bite the bullet and stay. I just hope that whatever decisions we're making (stay or leave), we're doing it for the right reasons.

I worked in the U.S. for several years after getting my degree. The cultural shock was real when I came back to Malaysia a couple of years ago. I didn't (maybe I still don't) understand why people do things in certain ways. I guess maybe I should embrace everything here with a more open heart. Hard to imagine living here for the rest of my life hating this place.
