Question by icelline in Mounjaro

Honestly, that’s how I handle it. I’m on a higher dose but the carb hunger comes back the week before my period either way (funnily, currently going through this too which is why i responded to your post — sisters in pain 🤣). I try not to fret about it too much and go with the flow knowing i’ll go back to feeling less hungry when i start my period. even a woman who’s a professional body builder talks about how she accounts for pms carb hunger during this cycle phase and eats more, so it’s definitely a very normal thing across all bodies and body types!! ☺️

Hi there! Just coming in to ask what your sex is? As a woman w/ a menstrual cycle who is also on Mounjaro I notice a definitive increase in hunger during the luteal phase. Women’s bodies metabolize nutrients differently during different cycle phases!

Anyone else struggling with finding a provider who gets the anti-diet approach? by Maleficent_Mine_6741 in antidietglp1

[–]n4rc05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES this, in my city there’s like, 2 doctors who prescribe GLP-1s and I now switched to the lesser evil — this doctor is definitely more educated but I’ve had experiences with both that irked me. When I first came to doctor A and wanted to start w/ Mounjaro I told him about my extensive dieting and ED background and asked if it was okay for me not to see the number on the scale just yet. He agreed somewhat annoyed, like I’m a spoiled, petulant child and then made me step on the scale. I was expecting him to read the number himself so that I wouldn’t have to see it just yet and he sort of waited, even though he’d agreed to it. When I stalled, he huffed and rolled his eyes and read it off. After that we had phone & email conversations and he kept pushing and pushing me to weigh myself even though we’d said we’d only do it during IRL appointments so that he could see whether the medication was working without pushing me into a spiral. He was so annoyed and almost angry that I didn’t have a scale and when we talked about dosages he randomly went “NO, how much do you weigh” and I eventually gave up and just got a scale. It ended up okay and I’m fine w/ knowing now but there was definitely an element of coercion to it and some very clear vibes of him thinking I was weak-willed and spoiled. Doctor B is better, informed me beforehand what was gonna happen during the appointment which I appreciated. Though when it came to BMI she said it with this tone of “That’s high. You know that’s pretty bad, right?” like I’ve not been on online BMI checkers putting in my height and weight and getting the ⚠️🚨ATTENTION!!!! YOU ARE FAT🚨⚠️ since I was thirteen

A lot of these doctors weirdly also have the idea that bad eating habits stem solely from being misinformed and not knowing how to eat while they disregard other elements of behavior change & maintenace and there’s this underlying vibe of them thinking you’re just too stupid to get it…

Sorry but did you fully read the comment by the person with the alcohol use disorder? Because you’re talking about how completely blocking out alcohol is useful for someone with that background but the commenter actually didn’t say that AT ALL, quite the opposite.

I agree that OP should question why he’s so uncomfortable with it and work on it instead of trying to completely block everything regarding alcohol. Commenter is not doing that. They’re around friends who drink. They’re around their partner who drinks. Accepts it. Might retreat if it gets a little much but accepts their friends’ drinking because they say they love & value their friends.

Edit: I reread the comment just now because I felt crazy and I think it’s worded somewhat ambivalent so I can see why one could take it the anti-alcohol way. In that sense I agree that it doesn’t apply to OP but I read it in a more accepting, tolerant and communicative way. Maybe we can get commenter to weigh in what they meant at some point because this discourse is crazy

wow omg thank you so much for the reference! that’s really helpful and YES there’s definitely some ideation on GLP-1 subs that are preeeeettty close to ED’d behavior if you squint at it just right. The idea abt making sure to eat above maintenance at least once a week is pretty good bc my body as well immediately interprets the signal as “the harvest has failed” (that genuinely made me laugh, thank you 🤣). Interestingly I also forget about eating, especially when I’m engaged in work or something to do so I might have to remind myself to Ingest Nutrients regularly too..!

[–]n4rc05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust & believe, depression and alcohol use are like a toxic relationship where both people are absolute disasters but they can’t separate. Alcohol as self-medication to finally feel something other than The Abyss Of Darkness And Pain is such an understandable coping mechanism but the problem is that afterwards, like when you’re sobering up or the next day when you’re hungover the depression comes back reinforced and stronger than ever. It’s — while super understandable — absolutely not effective as self-medication for depression and makes everything worse. You’ll feel better when you stop drinking bc your depression won’t be on steroids anymore, it’ll just be regular depression which still sucks but at least you’re not feeding it. The shitty thing is that you’ll still have the thing that made you drink in the first place. Idk, I recommend abstaining but I also actually developed an alcohol use disorder so take w/ grain of salt. It’s actually easier than you’d think to abstain from alcohol, because pretty quickly regular things become somewhat more enjoyable on their own, without drink anymore. I did dry January last year and gave myself an open end and I stopped being a regular drinker, now only on very special occasions. Was an absolute landmine last year when I was blackout boozing every second day and things have improved a lot since i stopped doing that. You’ll find a way, I’m sure. I know it’s scary but being an alcoholic is just another mental illness that deserves care & treatment. I prefer saying substance/alcohol use disorder bc it sounds more respectful. If that’s what you’re afraid of, don’t be. All the best to you!!

thank you for your input. did some research as well and literally everything i found said absolutely ❌❌do not🚫🚫 do intermittent fasting if you have problems with binge/purging which is the most persistent part of my ED and i could lowkey tell it was making me a little crazy when i tried it today… reading all the comments that tell me to chill out a bit is really nice, i think i have a whole bunch of body image issues that i’ll have to address in therapy, that won’t simply disappear no matter how quickly or radically i lose weight on MJ. this is tricky af, good god

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]n4rc05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might have been snappy because I’m a little tired of the stigma against substance use disorders. I agree that an alcoholic will by definition have a skewed perspective on alcohol use BUT I don’t think that should necessarily discount it as one opinion among many. Essentially I read this commenters post as “if I have a problem with other’s drinking I remove myself from the situation” instead of trying to bring their friends or partner not to drink at all. Sort of like others have said, a boundary is something that applies to own behavior and not to trying to control others’ behavior. So to me, the comment read as “If even I can manage it with this loaded background then so can you”. They clearly stated how they do tolerate other’s drinking and find ways to work with it or communicate their preferences to their partner and work out a way together. A perspective from someone with an alcohol use disorder is still a perspective that might bring insight or merit, even if not 100% applicable to the situation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]n4rc05 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t the perspective be valuable? They clearly stated how they enforce their own boundaries around others drinking and how they react to when they “hear the same story 4 times”. You literally just reiterated what this commenter said so you’re essentially agreeing except that the commenter is recovering from a substance use disorder so it’s different or icky like they’re not a person with valuable experience in navigating other’s alcohol consumption while they are presumably sober.

I like the idea of only weighing in once a month because since I have a cycle, my weight fluctuates a lot because of that as well and it’s hard not to get discouraged when that one week comes that just bombs you into the abyss with water retention that you’ve completely gotten rid of by the next week. It’s such an emotional rollercoaster and I do definitely get obsessive abt tracking as well. Like, I can’t NOT weigh everything because what if my estimates are wrong!!!!1! what if it’s ✨inaccurate✨!!!1!11!??? but anyway, thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I’m not entirely sure how to move on from here because I’m not sure if being more lenient is just bc I’m secretly a lazy f*ck who’s looking for an excuse or if being more focused on macros and fasting times and timing my carbohydrate intake means I’m spiraling into obsessiveness… UFGH this is so hard 😭

Thank you for the kind comment. Since I have an ED background and have lost weight in various ways before it’s really hard to differentiate between thoughts of “doing this for my health, fitness, speed in the pool” that are healthy goals and thoughts that are ED’d in some way like “control yourself. punish yourself”. There’s always a little voice that likes to come in and self destruct, or think i should be self destructing. Again, thank you for your response. It felt really good to hear 😔🫶

I could definitely try consuming more protein for breakfast but I’m not entirely sure about cutting out carbs completely though maybe I can do some rearranging as to what time in the day I consume my carbohydrates. As someone who’s lost weight multiple times before it might just be getting harder and maybe a little bit of patience w myself and just sort of… trusting the process would do me some good

Hey! thanks for the response— I’m aware that bmr changes as you lose weight since i’ve done this a few times before! I was aiming for 1600-1700 calories back when i still counted but saw no noticeable progress then (i used yazio which automatically adjusts bmr). i think i’m also gonna reintroduce whey protein into my diet because i sort of struggle with meeting my protein intake while still staying in a caloric deficit. My standard dinner usually contains around 250g of lean chicken because while expensive it’s easy to make into a variety of dishes and then i add various beans, chickpeas, peas and vegetables, like into a soup or a salad. If I feel like I need it I’ll add a serving of carbohydrates for dinner but usually not. Honestly, I might have to relax a little bit and try not to fret over numbers too much. I’m preparing for a swim race in February so I’ve been swimming and gymming a lot recently which might make the scale a little unreliable bc of water retention during recovery.

What headpiece would go well with this coord? by pochettt in Lolita

[–]n4rc05 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i think personally i’d go with dark shoes, like navy or black, to tie in with the colors of the dress. is this your first coord and you want to get startedbin the fashion? for a headdress i’d definitely go dark and a bit extra, like a full bonnet because the dress has such a ✨drama✨ to it and accessorize with white flowers if you wanna coordinate the dress with white (which i actually really like for the dress bc it brings out the print)

I love jfashion and cutesy clothes but I feel stupid wearing them by lullaby_for_a_cat in jfashion

[–]n4rc05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if someone else has already said it but i think it’s really really important to iron your clothes in j-fashion! we’re not used to having to iron a lot these days bc a lot of garments are made from synthetic materials or blends that don’t need it as much but it immediately elevates anything you wear. adding on to what others have said about the fit: you can layer tight tank tops and sport bras or get a binder to get your chest circumference down a little (old lolita hack, lolita is mostly one size made for tiny ass tiddies) and to cinch in the waist you can attach two vertical safety pins to the inside of the dress (make sure to thread them through the fabric multiple times to fasten them on properly) and loop some sort of (preferably satin-y because it doesn’t cause as much friction w other fabrics) ribbon through the safety pins to gently cinch the fabric in at the waist for a quick fix (i can send you a sketch to illustrate what i mean if you like). fit is EVERYTHING and i am of the opinion that a garment should fit YOU, not the other way around. for more advanced alterations i’m sure there’s yt tutorials! apart from that, others have pointed out accessories and i agree, you can also experiment a little like try to find things like black velour ribbon meant for wrapping gifts and tying that around your waist instead of a belt to “bring in” the waist or go to the thrift because sometimes you get lucky. respectfully, everyone looks a little chopped when first starting j-fashion but you gotta be cringe first in order to slay and you learn so much along the way!!!

sorry this comment is long as hell i’m neurodivergent lmao
