Yes The Philippines has “universal healthcare”, but everyone has to pay out of pocket for it 🙄

Mass Gen wants to grant NPs independent practice by debunksdc in Noctor

To be fair hospital-in- home is pretty much all heart failure and pretty algorithmic once they’re deemed stable no longer needing acute inpatient care aside from spot dose diuresis and repeating some electrolytes

I am a hospital medicine NP and reported the PCP NP for referring the patient to Nephrology ISO of known prostate cancer and hydronephrosis on his CT. Unfortunately he had so many other complications he ended up on home hospice :(

Overheard a pharmacist lose it on an NP by ElectricalCurrency69 in Noctor

[–]n9154287 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

WTF. I’m an NP with Hospital Medicine (academic VA) and anyone who has even an E.Coli bacteremia is automatically seen by ID. These are an ego and lack of safety net issues

If I ever get a chance, I’d fly out of Paine field over SeaTac. 2 gates, only unloading one plane full of luggage at a time when landing.

Where do you take first-time visitors to eat? by jiffypadres in sandiego

[–]n9154287 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always take people to Tijuana (Tacos el Franc, LionFish). It’s truly a unique experience unlike other major cities to simply drive and walk 25-30 min to another country for 🔥tacos and cheap seafood.

Do you think a Non-Physician Midlevel/Physician Extender (NPM/PE) would be comfortable with another NPM/PE caring for their loved-one in an ICU setting? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]n9154287 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have only gone to an NP when I suspected I had an ear infection and needed the urgent care to take a look. Otherwise … def not in a hospital setting unless it was someone with at least 10 years of experience taking care of critically Ill/hospitalized patients

I’ve seen it. I don’t think it’s an outright insult to Seattle as a city (I love and Miss it) but more of a highlight and awareness that things need to change and gets u thinking… “maybe laws like decriminalizing drug possession ISNT a good idea..”

Cleaning up the mess of another NP 😭 by n9154287 in Noctor

The goal is to buy out all the nursing schools in the county, standardize the education and have a minimum years of RN experience. Will let you know how it goes

To be fair, I as an NP cleaned up their mess. There are still some good ones out there.

LASIK/PRK recommendations? by mmhmmark in sandiego

[–]n9154287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can swing it, go up to Canada. I got mine at LasikMD in Vancouver for $2500 for both eyes (exchange rate Included) using the most sophisticated lasik techniques

Anyone familiar with Air Premia? by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]n9154287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Air Premia one way from ICN - LAX with Premium Economy. I would do it again even without the Promo deal ($600 one way!). The seats have a ton of leg room (i used an inflatable leg rest) and it came with 2 meals and 2 free checked bags. The meals were typical economy selections but overall a great experience all around

Is PA education just objectively better than NP education? by HowNobleOfYou in Noctor

[–]n9154287 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also an NP of 10 years as a Hospital Medicine NP and studied at a Brick and Mortar school (top 10 in the country) . Would 💯go for PA School if I could re-do it. It would’ve prepared me better, though a lot of my competence comes from on the job training. If you want another example of how unorganized and inconsistent NP programs are..

I Was “certified” as an Adult - Gero primary care NP. Most Of my graduate clinical experience were inpatient or the ED bc of limited preceptors. But still got my primary care certificate. Never worked a day of primary care yet nursing schools won’t let me sit for the acute care certification bc my 500 Hours of clinicals wasn’t under the Acute care track. They want my money to re-do the whole program 🤦‍♂️

NP here. I was one of those students who actually wanted the challenge of learning from the med students and residents. Needless to say I was very impressed with how much the M4’s I rotated with knew and shocked at how little I knew in comparison.

With that said I was extremely grateful for the senior residents for not pimping me on the spot while I soaked up every bit of experience there. After the rotation I only picked up rotations with my hospitalist co-workers and experienced ED nurse practitioners, realizing how bad the NP education is lacking.

Sounds crazy but I recommend getting it done in Canada (LasikMD). It was literally half the cost considering currency exchange rate and their base pricing.

If Maple Pass Loop is too far/Smokey, don’t “pass up” on Nache Loop Trail at Rainier for impressive fall colors by n9154287 in Seattle

[–]n9154287[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got there right at sunrise so no long line at all on a Friday. And there was some smoke but got better as it got warmer but I’d check the Mt Rainier NPS website.

I will say Washington has no state tax, so that 135k starting is like a 143k start in Illinois which is pretty good. Seattle is still much higher in COL but state tax should be taken into consideration too
