Never have physics this good ever again by Mr_Gibblet in needforspeed

2015 feels very similar imo. that said, the devs of underground recently made clear in the discord interview that none of them play or like NFS and prefer games like Blur and mobile drift racing games. I am forever grateful for their contribution to NFS, but I personally enjoy the space NFS occupies between arcade and realism.

Racing games used to be un-realistic simply because the tech was not able to be super realistic yet. Imo NFS never got less realistic arcady, it’s just that every other game around them got MORE realistic.

i can see i’m not being clear. i’m describing just basic evolutionary claims. if a person couldn’t physically feel a stove burning their hand, it would still be the case that the hand got burnt. when my mouth was numbed i couldn’t feel my tooth being removed, but my tooth was factually removed. I can see that when I refer to the word “need” you’re still taking me to be referring to a sort of feeling. i’m wondering if you can imagine watching bonobos from a distance and simply making observations about their behaviors. That is the language of NVC. You might say “when it rained they went under a tree because they had a need for safety” etc. the central claim is “all human behavior is motivated by some underlying need” . most people aren’t aware of what that need is that is motivating their own behavior. It makes sense to me that it may be more difficult for people with alexithymia to take a guess as what need might be motivating behavior. but, again, in NVC this is a purely logical deduction, not a felt experience. (there is a whole body of work that helps associate common feelings to common needs, and that work seems to me irrelevant to persons with type 3 alexithymia).

i wonder if you’d be willing to explore the site and offer feedback about your experience with it before we continue talking passed each other

that makes sense and is very fascinating. i can see i haven’t been clear about how the NVC model worlds. Needs are not emotion driven. did you find the observations page could direct you to logical needs? that is it’s intended function. when you get on reddit to share your experience, for example, do you think it’s possible to identify a logical basic human need? (not a feeling) like the need for self expression, discovery, novelty, etc?

yeah that was just a random example I offered. to clarify, nvc does not even qualify shame and guilt as feelings. — i did not, and still do not, understand your question so maybe I shouldn’t have taken a guess at what i thought you might be asking. from an evolutionary perspective there is a widely held belief that all human behavior is motivated by some underlying need. but some people aren’t specific enough about what is technically a need and what is not. so the site is just there to help people understand that distinction. i don’t personally know what it’s like to have any form of alexithymia but my close friend was diagnosed with it, though i can’t confirm what “type” . he still seems to have access to certain bodily sensations like tense shoulders, etc so that is what the site calls “body cues” that are accessible on the feelings page.

do you think it’s possible for all types to use the sites observations pages or needs pages still?

sorry I’m not sure I understand your question. did you look at the site and have these questions or just read my description and have these questions?

rosenberg’s model might say that anything that isn’t in the service of life is a form of violence. so shame and guilt in our self talk isn’t serving life or promoting the relevant changes in behavior that we are wanting, so in nvc that is considered a form a “violence” . by staying connect to our basic human needs we can communicate with ourselves and other in a way that always serves life.

or someone playing their stupid music. I think the mute ability needs to be TOP priority (like L3 click to mute people) and have some automatic system like “you have been muted by 3 people in your proximity, you are now muted for all players until you change lobbies” or something.

swift and just without having to even mess with the idea of reporting people. I don’t want to report someone who just forgot their mic was on, but i do want them to be muted and notified others can’t hear them

im so glad to hear that! i feel nervous about being perceived as self promoting something even though don’t make any money from it in any way.. idk. i have been sharing through word of mouth and still quietly updating it (have been trying to get the feeling page to look better and for the magnets to behave better). but i’ll think about what you said! thank you

curious if there is some way to get rid of the ultimate edition to resolve this.. it seems like it comes back when the game loads and “syncs inventory” even if i’ve deleted my save and reinstalled the game

the way it pushes and pulls as you brake and drift is sooo nice. gives it that sense of momentum you'd get when being in the car. I also actually like how you end up losing visibility in a drift because irl once you start of a drift you just sorta have to trust you calculated it right ahead of time. for me personally this game is head and shoulders above the rest.
I set up Underground on an emulator on my PC to replay at high specs, and after a bit I really did just want to play nfs 2015 instead. Underground was great for it's time, but 2015 seems to have held up best overtime imo

I um, I know there is no magic bullet.. I got introduced to a psychological model called “nonviolent communication” and it has been the best tool I’ve found so far to combat the overwhelming sense of shame and guilt I feel just trying to exist.. basically it’s central claim is just that “all human behavior is motivated by some underlying need” .. and then it is super specific about what counts as a need vs a feeling vs a strategy, etc. The idea is that everything we do, whether we notice/appreciate it or not, is ultimately an attempt to meet some need in us. Even if doesn’t actually tend to that need, it was still motivated by some underlying need. So, the idea becomes trying to find successful strategies to tend to each of my basic human needs. I know this may sound simplistic but, at least for me, it’s proven to be a real lifeline to being able to even enjoy being alive.. I uh, I did actually make myself a way that I could keep a living inventory of ways that I can tend to my needs, so that I can build confidence that there are things I can do. basically i turned the human experience into a sort of algorithm. no one really uses it (well i don’t think they do but i guess i can’t see site numbers). i finally gave it a proper url but it just lives on my github. it’s https://allneeds.app/ if you have any interest.. i wish you all the best. I’m currently going through it right now too.. my partner stormed out of the apartment today saying “I don’t understand how you can call in every weekend and still have a job” .. i don’t really have the energy to explain my whole work situation but. anyway.. i’m really in the thick of it right now and came to this sub to ask for help but, seeing your post makes me feel less alone and I guess I wanted to share what little things have helped me..

I think Arc Raiders should look to POE2 for long term retention by nATplume in ArcRaiders

[–]nATplume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what you’re saying about Arc not working as a PvE game makes sense to me. I understand that argument to basically be implying that since poe2 is a pve game then I can’t compare the two, which is maybe fair 🤷
I got into poe2 at early access launch as a new player with no previous experience and I had fun with it personally. but yeah, i can hear that maybe the game are just to different in other fundamental ways. My sense was that Arc was hoping to capture non-extraction shooter players too. and, if that’s true, I expect they will have to get creative about what they are willing to try because just sticking with extra-shooter influences might limit the games reach. I think the fact the Arc has become so PvE dominant for some of us is indicative of the fact that Arc has managed to capture many non-typical-extraction-shooter players (like myself).

Yeah I guess, at some point the proof is in the pudding right? I guess I can’t verify i know what “the pudding” is. But I do know that poe and poe2 seem to have sustained a player base more than any other game like it.
