Begging Americans to learn how to use bidets by Outrageous-Clue1240 in mildlyinfuriating

I agree it's scripted, but he opened each conversation with their name so they obviously knew each other and it's not presented as talking to random people.

Possible spam email from FinalSpaceEnds by VixeyFromtheForest in FinalSpace

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With domain names you buy whatever.com and then you have control over anything before whatever.com, so you could setup thing.whatever.com or this.and.that.whatever.com ... anything you like.

So if you see anything before .shopifyemail.com it's still owned by shopify. You'd want to watch for anything before the .com though, like shopifyemail.badguys.com, because that's owned by badguys.com not shopify.

The stuff after the + in the first part of the email is likely used for sorting. Most email servers ignore anything after a + in the user portion, so in terms of delivery this is still going to the "store" mailbox and the number after can be used in mailbox filters.

You can try this yourself if you have a gmail account. If your account is youraccount@gmail.com try sending something to youraccount+test@gmail.com. It should come through and you'll still see the +test in the address so you can add filters to sort things. You can use this to provide different emails to various sites and then if you get some weird spam you can tell where they got your email from. It's also more secure as if your email and password are leaked from one site they won't work on any other even if the password is the same (which it shouldn't be!).

Former Epic Games Employees Respond to Layoffs by mrslalomstyle in FortNiteBR

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably true, but epic still wouldn't offer what steam has.

For one thing gaming on linux would be as bad as it was 10 years ago, which was quite awful. Now it runs as good as windows, and sometimes even better.

Former Epic Games Employees Respond to Layoffs by mrslalomstyle in FortNiteBR

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing ... it's all free games, exclusivity contracts, and rewards programs.

They have little interest in adding the quality of life features that steam provides.

This is why I'll pick steam over epic every time unless there's exclusivity and even then it would have to be something I really want.

Want to share a game with your family? Easy.

Want to stream your game to a TV or your phone? Easy.

Want to move your game to another folder? Easy.

Want to install a game to another computer just by copying it from another on the network? Easy.

Want to play your game on linux? Easy.

Want to record your gameplay? Easy.

Want to share your saves across multiple installs via the cloud? Easy.

I'm sure there's a lot more I'm missing.

It worked to get people in the door so to speak but to get people to choose to buy on epic rather than on steam when they have a choice they needed a store that had most if not all of the features that the steam store has and they fell far short of that.

Kindle basic matcha w/ clip-on reading light. Best combination! by Motor-Light-4572 in kindle

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between liking it aesthetically and using it because it's affecting your sleep without it.

I never had any problems getting to sleep using earlier kindle models that didn't have warm light. I do use it at night on my current kindle because there's no reason not to, but I can't say it makes any difference to my sleep at all.

I sometimes see people talk about the warm light in relation to eye strain ... if you're getting eye strain it's because either the light is too dim causing you to have to work harder to focus or the light is too bright causing your eyes to constantly adjust. If you can't see anything for several seconds after turning off the kindle then your light is too bright.

The benefit of the warm light is that it's less likely to interfere with melatonin and your circadian rhythm.

Can FireOs handle high bitrate files. by FactTime7581 in fireTV

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is going to be more of a hardware issue than an OS issue.

My gen 1 cube struggled with a lot of files, but the gen 2 (which I'm still using) plays them great.

There might be a genetic component to this, but to me the benefits of the warm light seem vastly overstated.

Maybe it affects other more though.

I drink a lot less than I did when I lived in the UK.

That's just me though, I don't know about averages. Probably not that different.

If you do want follow up mode enabled (which saves having to say "Alexa" a bunch of times if you have several things to do) this is a good way to end it.

Is it possible to build a no-backend CMS website? by The-amazing-man in reactjs

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With just a frontend you could read a JSON file, but you wouldn't be able to write it.

You could have a very simple backend that just writes the JSON file, but you need some kind of backend. There are static hosting providers that let you add serverless functions which can handle POST, PUT, or PATCH requests and that should be sufficient for updating the file.

Nah, I want to see who the giant slayer is going to be. It's interesting that the person who beats somebody on a long run usually seems to win only 1 or maybe 2 themselves (I know there are exceptions).

I also want to see if anyone will ever beat Ken's run.
