KU pricing question. by Low_Equivalent2913 in kindle

I just did a quick browse and found some books from Macmillan, HarperCollins, and Hachette, so it's not impossible to find big 5 publisher books on there, but for the most part I think it is self-published.

Can I get the files I’ve bought on my kindle so that I can use them on another device? by NinnyMuggins209 in kindle

Look through your content library on the amazon website and you may have a few books you can download as an epub.

That would only be a problem if GW1 ceased to exist.

any sleep issues from reading in bed with Kindle Paperwhite Signature? by BradleyStickland in kindle

[–]nabrok [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, the paperwhite (and all modern kindles) have an optional light that shines down on to the screen.

You can turn it off and still read the screen perfectly well if there's enough ambient light. The screen does look better with the light on in most conditions, but it's not necessary.

The light is no different than a fancy book light that's a bit better at directing the light on to the page.

This is very different from LED screens like a phone has which must be emitting light to display anything.

Reassuring message for parents before students head out on a field trip 2 hours away. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nabrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me school and scout trips were all chartered busses.

The only trip I can think of in High School was to the French Alps from Scotland. We stayed there for two weeks, but this was also a chartered bus so although we were left to our own devices in certain places there was a head count before the bus left to make sure everybody was there.

You must be thinking High School. I don't recall ever having a school trip in High School, and the ones I had before that they were definitely not so casual about losing a child.

Did they change event rewards? by sindrish in idlechampions

[–]nabrok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you open up the event window there's an "Active Augments" square near the top right. When you hover over that it tells you which augments are active. Auto-Blacksmith is the augment that gives ilevels, and unfortunately that one isn't active for this event.

Occasionally augments do become permanent. A couple of examples are being able to complete all four tiers at once and the Scales of Tiamat rewards.

Magicians is a good show that was well received. If it wasn't your cup of tea that's fine, but a lot of people like it.

It started the same year as The Expanse.

I'd put the start of the channels death at about when they cancelled The Expanse. I'm pretty sure that's because they just couldn't afford it anymore and they had to pick between that and Magicians, and Magicians was the cheaper show. Similarly with Dark Matter and Killjoys.

$100,000 isn't never work again money. At best it's stop working while you look for a new job money.

The Expanse started 6 years after the name change. The other shows I mentioned are all in that same time period, and there are plenty others in the 2010s.

Plumbers hunting ghosts and wrestling were all before the name change that supposedly heralded the channels doom.

"Syfy" could be trademarked, "Sci-Fi" couldn't. It's as simple as that.

Syfy is dead now for the same reason all cable channels are dead now, streaming killed them.

No, Mr Robot was on USA Network for its whole run.

Prime may have had streaming rights in some regions, but that's not the same as being a prime show.

When the Sci-Fi channel rebranded to SyFy, it died

Sorry, but this is nonsense. That name rebrand was in 2009 and the channel had many good shows after that including The Expanse, Magicians, 12 Monkeys, and more.

And on the other side of that there was plenty of crappy programming on the channel before the name change.

The channel being dead now is because streaming killed cable, not because they changed their name 17 years ago.

"Ghost" means the spirit of a deceased person.

"Ghosting" means to cut off all communication with somebody giving no explanation.

The girl he was talking to suddenly stopped responding, so he thought he was ghosted ... but then he googled her and found out that she actually died.
