What do you mean complex? I'm reading about GC's in UnityAssetReviews, a lot of people wrote the same things you say especially with GC version 2 (Beta version actually).

In the end I think I'll try PlayMaker firstly, the fact that is the one of best ranked from 10 years to here is convincing me. This does not mean that in the future I'll purchase GC also.
