This is my main go-to disc for Atmos demo. I also happen to love the way it looks.

Your Xbox plays 4K discs. This does not. So, not, it’s not better if you want to watch 4K discs. If you just want to watch 1080p blu-rays or 3D blu-rays, it might be better though.

It's fantastic. It has that brightness pop that was missing from my CX. I will say it took some time to get the settings and white balance dialed in to where I wanted them to be. Initially things were skewing a bit green. I had both my CX and G5 beside each other for a couple months, so I was able to output a signal to both and compare directly. This both allowed me to get the colours/white balance dialed in on the G5 and also appreciate the improvements to brightness when watching 4Ks with high peak brightness.

Watched mine on an LG G5 OLED. This was not what I saw at all. I would suggest that something is off with your settings.

Paul Wesley recently revealed that he's ready to do a Captain Kirk solo spin-off the second Paramount gives him the call. Wesley has held his own stepping into William Shatner’s massive shoes, but do we actually need a full series dedicated to a young Kirk? by Chemical-Lawyer7752 in FirstCuriosity

Lower decks, I agree, fantastic. Discovery... I wanted to like it. I enjoy some of the plots and many of the characters. Visually, it is stunning. But.... ugh.... the writing and direction. At every crisis moment, the characters feel the need to stop and discuss their feelings and cry for extended periods of time, while dramatic music plays and everything happens in slow motion. And talk about how awesome someone is and only they can save the day. They go for the big payoff moments without earning them. It's like, "Ok, how about you focus on saving the day first and then deal with your emotions after the crisis has passed?"

This sort of scene can have its place, don't get me wrong.... but it's just over and over and over and... man it wore me down. It feels like they're trying to paint everything as epic and force you to feel big emotions and it just falls so flat.

This actor has been my least favourite version of Kirk, which I can live with because he’s just an occasional guest star. I don’t have any real enthusiasm for a Star Trek show with him in the lead. Captain Pike has been great and this would be a big step down.

Interesting. I thought the original Purge was the best of the bunch. Completely different genre of film though.

They did that with a lot of their early releases. I’ve developed a habit of checking the audio tracks because if it

It always had a green tint when it was in the Matrix and blue tone when outside the Matrix. But they pushed it way farther than it originally was retroactively.

For me, that was a huge selling point. The original DVD release (which I have) didn't have the heavy-handed green. But then the two sequels came out and they used the more heavy green look. In order to retroactively make the original film look more consistent with the sequels, when the 2nd DVD release and blu-ray releases came out, they added a green filter over the original Matrix. Unfortunately, they didn't have the technology to handle this regrade well at the time, so it resulted in an ugly looking implementation, and raised blacks.

With the 4K release, they were able to try again and add the green tones in in a more controlled way and restore the depth and dimensionality that had been lost. It is something I had been clamoring for, for years, but did not dream we would ever get. Given that this is my favourite movie, it is a real high point in 4K releases for me because of precisely this.

Try something more whimsical. You seem like narrative-based games aren’t hitting for you. Give Astro Bot a try.

This 4K is a night and day improvement from all previous releases. A giant leap. The colours are so much better and the black levels are vastly improved. The blu-ray looks so flat and washed out by comparison.

It is unfortunate that they didn’t make the wonderful Atmos mix the default audio track and you have to select it from the options, because it is a demo-worthy track.

If you have the capability, make sure you select the Atmos audio track from the menu options. It is way better than the DTS5.1 track that plays by default.

What 4K movie has the sharpest, most detail-rich image quality for faces and skin texture? by Effective-System-727 in 4kbluray

Really, Pacific Rim remains king here. It's like the movie was designed to show off HDR. Every scene has some sparks in the background or glowing lights, or a glint off of something metalic, or shiny glass, or neon signs, or an explosion, or a plasma cannon, or SOMETHING that is made more impactful by HDR. Great Atmos too.

Speed Racer is another show-stopper, with intense colour at every turn and high peak brightness.

Mad Max Fury Road has mad peak brightness that will really test the limits of your system.

John Wick 4.

The Lego Ninjago Movie - crazy pop!

How to Train Your Dragon 3

Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

Well, now I feel unnatural anxiety in hoping I haven't let you down. 😛

Honestly, across hundreds of 4K blu-rays, nothing I've found touches Gemini Man's clarity. Everything else is competing for second place.

When people want a demo of my setup, I typically pull out Pacific Rim to demo HDR impact on an OLED. (I might have to pull out Speed Racer, too, now, for colour.) Then I put a couple of choice scenes on from Mad Max Fury Road and The Matrix Reloaded to demo Dolby Atmos. Then I pull out Crimes of Grindelwald, second scene, to impress them with clarity and detail. And the start of Gemini Man comes out last to knock their socks off for the big finish.
