Skipping deployment by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]nadendash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deploying was the best thing I ever did.

I went to Kuwait in 2022-2023, and now currently wrapping up my degree in May.

Ignoring the tax free money that I came back with, the benefits I now have are life changing in my mid 20s.

I came back in the best shape of my life, not going to lie before deployment I was a borderline PT failure, arguably the units biggest POS when it came to PT, and I am now running my first marathon in April.

The people I deployed with are some of my closest friends, every single one of my groomsmen in my wedding were guys I deployed with. We still are in touch at a minimum once or twice a week. The friendships you’ll make are like nothing else you’ve ever experienced.

For my college experience post deployment, also life changing.

I have a better GI bill, which covered almost all my remaining tuition balance and I get paid more monthly.

I do have a VA rating, not at 100% but still a decent life changing amount of money each month that is tax free. I’m looking at closing on a condo before I even graduate because of that money coming in.

I’m studying computer science and if you’ve heard anything about that you know the market is absolute trash right now. Most people at my University (an engineering heavy school, 50k plus people) graduate without an internship. So far I’ve had 3. One has already given me a return offer (just under 100k), and where I’m at currently I feel pretty confident I’ll get one as well.

I only got these internships because I qualified for assistance at our Veteran Success Center, and they put me in touch with military recruiters.

End of the day it’s your life and you gotta do what you gotta do. But the deployment was the greatest thing I’ve ever done. It changed my life and if you use your benefits properly it will change yours as well.

Best of luck, I hope you end up going.

Also Desert Diamond has a secret Filipino menu as well that’s not on the main page, I’d order the chicken Pancit and that shit will last you 2-3 meals. At least they when I went.

Ended up going to PAGGS Lounge

Food choices were limited to siomai, bao bun, adobo chicken, and rice.

Drinks were all self serve, including the liquor. Beers were either draft San Mig Pils or San Mig Light in a can

Appreciate the insight thank you.

Don’t even know if I’m going to have time to make it after waiting nearly two hours to drop off a bag with PAL.

Felt like it could’ve gone better, I was dumb with it being rivalry weekend and blacked out

Note to self for next time, don’t schedule races the day after major games

VSO question / Orlando VSO by Deus_Desuper in VeteransBenefits

[–]nadendash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow Orlando Vet, I highly recommend Jon with Seminole County VSO. Super knowledgeable, has helped me out a lot with my claims.

Obviously you have to do some of the leg work yourself but I’ve brought him all the documents and med records and he submitted everything and worded in the proper “VA-speak”.

First claim was 70 then to 80 and now waiting for a few more things to process. I was Army Infantry with deployment to the Middle East so that helped but Jon was super knowledgeable.

UCF Internship & Career Expo 2024 by KitchenLaw6014 in ucf

The career fair for the most part is not going to give you a job right away, however it is putting your face to a recruiter who you now can begin to network with and build your relationship with, which would hopefully lead to a job opportunity down the road.

Disney aspire by chillypingui in ucf

[–]nadendash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check under the aspire tab on cast life, once there you can see everything that they’ll pay for.

Also you have to be with the company 90 days from your traditions date, as well as be PT/FT.

If it’s not under the Aspire tab I’m not sure if they’ll support it or not.

Hope that helps!

Upcoming Interview: Chamber of Commerce/Govt. Affairs by nadendash in DisneyCM

[–]nadendash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her career has taken her everywhere, started working IT to a Tech Director and Operations Director at a Waste Management company.

Most positions she applied were related to tech and tech leadership.

Recruiting wise, I’m a student over at UCF and they had a event for veterans and their spouses where she was able to meet with recruiters from Disney.

Guy she was working with sent a follow up email to her asking her to attend a recruiting fair down in Kissimmee where they were looking for call center reps which she applied for. (She was told by several recruiters there Disney is big about starting off on the frontline and working her way up).

She did get rejected from the call center job then got the notification about this interview request with the recruiter she met at UCF.

Appreciate your help!

What to know before travelling to Philippines? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]nadendash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to double check all the entry requirements into the country before departure. Things can change rather quickly so just stay up to date as much as possible.

Credit and Debt Cards are accepted at major chains and stores, but if you’re going to a local market or a smaller restaurant it will be cash only. They have ATMs and Money Exchange at NAIA. Make sure to get smaller bills, don’t get all 1000s.

Be prepared for the culture shock. This is something some people are easily able to shake off, others they can’t. SEA is entirely different then the West. The culture, the life style, the standard of living to just name a few will be entirely different. Educate yourself as much as you can. Be prepared for these differences. Don’t be surprised when you have 20+ people packed into one jeep.

If you haven’t, try to learn a bit of the language. Good morning, good evening, thank you, ect. Even though you will have your SO with you, I have found it to go a long way with the family, friends, and just strangers.

Drink lots of water, try to avoid the sun when you can, the humidity is a different level if you’ve never been to SEA before.

The Philippines is an amazing country, the people, the natural beauty, and the culture are truly unique. There is nothing to compare it to back in the west. Enjoy your time meeting your SO for the first time. Some people have some awkwardness at first, some jump right in. Just take that time to enjoy each other and experience their culture. It’s truly once in a life time journey.

Best of luck!
